iPad 3 To Launch In 3 Or 4 Months, DigiTimes Reports!

by Soha El-Borgy on December 14, 2011

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the iPad 3 recently. Just a couple of days ago, a rumor suggested an iPad 3 launch in February and that it will indeed support double the resolution of the current screen. We also heard that the next gen iPad will be thicker and will support smart cover as well.

Digitimes brought us yet another iPad 3 rumor today claiming that the device will see day light in the next 3 or 4 months. DigiTimes claims that Apple’s suppliers are slowing the iPad 2 production and directing their undivided attention to the new device.

OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads, the sources noted.

The 4 or 5 months release date is quite possible if we follow Apple’s calendar.

As you know, the new device is expected to support Dual LED light bars spiking the screen’s resolution by this to double that of the iPad 2. This enhancement will push the company to increase the price to cover that of the new Retina Display. We are also expecting an increase in horsepower and a new industrial design.

Man, I don’t know. Should tablets really be following cell phones in the “every 6 months a better one comes out” ideal? Like with a small screen cell phone, even if one 10x better comes out, all you’re really using it for is phone calls, a tiny window into the Internet, and some games while you wait in line at a concert or sit on a friends couch. If you’re paying for cell phone service then you probably got that phone for free, or under $200. But with a tablet, especially a apple tablet, you’re talking about a $500-$700 investment and with news like this, it is going to be obsolete within a year and a half?

Consoles are slowly realizing people don’t like that, hopefully apple and other tablet makers will realize that when you buy a high end device, you expect it to st ay highend for more than an Internet second.

Just because a new one comes out, doesn’t mean you have to get it. You wait until the one that has the things you want comes out. Then you buy it. No one is ever forced to buy anything.

I wanted the first iPad, but no webcam, so I skipped it. I bought iPad 2, and will probably sell it and get iPad 3 because the final thing I want is a hires screen for text, books, magazines, comics, etc. Then I’ll be happy for quite a while. I won’t mind if they add a faster processor or whatever in the next version.

I’m very happy with specs advancing quickly. You’d rather were stuck with the same old crap for years and years? That’s the auto industry! It SUCKS!
