If i already have 5.0.1 installed (No earlier jailbreak installed) with apps, games & music etc. Do i have to restore the device to a blank/restored 5.0.1 install or could i just jailbreak the device as it is ?

Use a custom ipsw if you need to preserve the baseband. This will allow you to unlock it with a gevey sim etc. if you dont need your phone unlocked, just use stock firmware.

i’ve found a bug,respringing removes every app except newsstand!then you need to power off and then power on the device!it’s a little bit annoying,but it gets easily fixed!

If your iPhone is on carrier lock then you have to use Custom IPSW to preserve baseband unlock.

Everything went well, but the cydia app icon is now white and crashes when trying to open it. Been re-jailbreaking it for 5 or 6 times now….. Help anyone?

@Milla, Where it says Stock Firmware, this means the downloaded firmware from Apple. I just connected my iphone 3GS to my Pc, updated the firmware. Downloaded redsnow, put it into DFU mode, installed the jailbreak (didn’t need to go into Extra’s tab at all).
The phone booted up, but was stuck on the apple logo, but the Pc was able to detect it on itunes. I disconnected it from Itunes, then did a reset (held the power button and home button till the screen flashed, gave it a few sections then repeated this). The phone booted up, no problems, apart from a white Cydia icon, went into cydia update one APP from there and it is working fine.

i clicked download and update to 5.0.1 on i tunes. it downloaded. now it says you need 17gb free space to back up files. continuing will result in the loss of all media on this ipod. its imposible for me to free up 17gb. i clicked back up box before updating ipod. i dont rly know what to do help please…

thank you, thank you, thank you, i have my fully functional and useable iPhone again. As it should be, not how apple intended.
Remember to let the phone finish what its doing and all will be well, wait for the running pineapple logo and the rest of the jailbreak, don’t get alarmed by the first stages and your computer saying “done”, when your phone has loads of command lines on the screen.
Wait for the phone to reboot.

Anyone running into this.. redsn0w starts the process and uploads the first and second stages then it says waiting to reboot. At this point my phone just starts up as normal and nothing happens after that. (iPhone 4, 5.0.1, using a MAC) Any advice?

That button is if you want to restore completely, even taking away your JB. To get your stuff back you can either connect to icloud or sync with iTunes

they meant to restore/update it to 5.0.1 if you haven’t already done it before or you are running any other iOs lower than 5.0.1

it does work, just do the steps correctly. if you did and your phone/ipod is now in black screen just wait for the laptop/pc to recognize your DFU iphone/ipod for a few seconds/mins.

you dont need to save shsh for 5.0 since no one is working on that. I think shsh for 5.0.1 is automatically saved if im not mistaken (remember reading about it somewhere)

via iTunes, click on your phone from the left side tab of iTunes and then you will see Summary. You will easily find the Restore button below the “Check for Update”

Yes, you have to. Otherwise, you will get a white apple logo after jb. (boot loop).

For those who failed to JB, make sure IPSW file is selected before JB. The old version of Redsn0w prompt for IPSW file upon startup, maybe should put that this feature to reduce the number of questions asked.

My Ip4 is hactivated using snowbreeze and is installed with io5 5.0.1 I did the procedure above I deselected the Install Cydia part (since my ip4 is already tethered). I was thinking it was already okay but it wont boot. When I tried using Iboot i got pass the apple logo. Did I miss something? Please help

Hey Mengual, Jus install tiny umbrella (soft), and after running it, go to advanced tab, and then untick the “Set hosts to Cydia on Exit”…… then go for updation.. u willl have clean updation

Well then: redsnow, jailbreak but: re-boot cycle (unfinished!). Well, tryed to do another jailbreak: same issue. Now I am restoring it againg from itunes, and I`ll try another jailbreak! Any help before do it?

Try entering *.* This would show all the files, and then Select IPSW download.

You need it from here, so u can then point redsn0w to the firmware. Then, when u r finished restoring, the phone will ask u if u want to restore from a backup, then u select the last backup, and everything should run perfectly.

Will this unlock the phone as well. Im using a BRAND NEW/CLEAN Iphone 4 thats a version 5.0 and BB 4.11.08. I have T-Mobile. ARe there any additional steps needed. I just dont see anything about unlocking….just the JB.

in the bottom right corner select “Search”
and type in “ultrasn0w”
install this and then your device will reboot and be unlocked

I get that all the time (Redsn0w crashes in Windows). It means you did not properly get into DFU mode. Try to anticipate when the different parts of that process go to the next step and when you get to the last part where you are holding just the home button release right when you hear the USB ‘do donk’ sound, you should have like 8 seconds left on the timer clicking down in that step’s direction. It’s very exact (and annoying nonetheless).

I had the same situation with my sisters iPhone, and to fix it all i did was use another computer to upgrade it. Worked fine for me. If its possible try using another computer to do your upgrade.

I dont think u need to use tiny umbrella for 5.0.1 restore. just restore as per normal without tiny umbrella.

That’s normal installous was not made for iOS 5 unseal sbsettings set push volume buttons or whatever click power in sbs and go to safe mode it will ask you to restart something then your back to normal

May be you are connected over WiFi, if you are, use the cable, otherwise it wont work

Ozzy, use redsn0w and the custom BB option. (have to be in pwned DFU mode). (redsn0w custom BB is like sn0wbreeze). After that run redsn0w and Jailbreak, be sure the option deactivate is checked, this is the same as jailbreak. Go to cydia then and install ultrasn0w

No, after jailbreak you have to download appsync from installous source and select the apps you want from itunes. cydia apps you have to redownload but becareful not all cydia apps are compatible with ios5

Just use redsn0w, choose Jailbreak and then follow the onscreen instructions. As you see in the video they didnt choose the IPSW, redsn0w does this automatically.

after the new iOS 5 was installed, i jail broke it with redsn0w, i turned it on and all looked fine. then i want to restore the backup that i did before upgrading, so I would have to click restore+option key to select the backup i want, but the restore button is greyed out. You don’t need them, redsnow detects it automatically, as shown in the video. you would be wasting your time downloading them.

I reckon it has to do with the baseband or SHSH blobs. I plugged my iPhone 4 into a different computer and the same problem occurred. I plugged a different iPhone 4 into both mac and PC’s and that works fine.

Without the backup, i have no contacts, pictures or data.

Just restart you device

Download the firmware file.
Run redsn0w.
Click Extras.
Click ‘Custom IPSW’.
Locate your firmware file.
After redsn0w has done it’s thing, put your iDevice in DFU mode. (Click Pwned DFU on redsn0w for step by step instruction).
Once you are in DFU mode (screen should be black).
Click option/alt on the Restore button in iTunes and select the NEW firmware file.(begins with NO_BB)
Once your iDevice has started up, launch redsn0w again and select Jailbreak this time round. Follow the instructions and you’re done!

Just restart your device

Yes make sure you do a full backup on iTunes or if y already jailbroke before use pkgbackup best backup app on Cydia

Since I updated my iphone4 to 5.0.1 untether jailbreak I keep getting an error POSIX on the BigBoss source. I assume server is down but I’m able to access the source with an 3g device on IOS version 4.2.1. Anyone have any ideas why its causing this or is it by coincidence?

In Cydia will not load my purchased packages…cannot instal myfi…shows I have the purchased package under my account but when when I try to refresh my packages I get “failed to fetch” error and Screen stating cannot locate package?? You do not need to find the ISPW Redsnow will find it for you as long as your donwloaded it from the ling above.

To everyone having the cydia issue, i belive it is because cydia is OVERLOADED. i’m already jailbroken/unlocked on ios 5.0.1 but i cant find the corona patch on cydia anywhere, and all the “NEW” apps are showing under yesterdays date, so i imagine it is an issue with all the traffic…. I’m on a 3gs 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak, but i jailbroke the phone using the 5.0 ispw and i boot using the 5.0 ispw… i guess im one of the ones using a “hybrid”… still unsure about applying this once i find it… mine phone is working GREAT already

For me it required a tethered restart and now works. I might have done something wrong but I thought this was supposed to be untethered. I’ll look into this tomorrow again…

I was running a jailbroken iphone 4 (ios 4.3.3, I think). I’ve cleverly (not!) managed to upgrade to ios5.01 using Apple’s firmware rather than the stock firmware suggested!! Is there anyway I can revert to 4.3.3 to jailbreak? Or am am now stock with a 5.0.1 unjailbroaken phone? Any help would be really appreciated!! Thanks

Restart Your device. It worked for me but then after i installed Installous I had to respring and then all of my icons disappeared. i just restarted again and it was back to normal.

I just got an iPhone 4 a few days ago. After installing the new jailbreak my audio is messed up. Whenever I play music or do anything involving sound it makes this annoying noise. I’ve restored it three times and the problem is still there. Idk if it’s related to the jailbreak but I’m taking it back to get replaced. Any ideas on what’s happening? I’ve also tried rebooting.

Just untethered 3GS with redsn0w. It seems like it worked, Cydia is on my iPhone now. I noticed after the JB that when I looked at my photograph albums, it showed pixelation and didn’t sharpen up until after I did a hard reboot, then it viewed normally, but with some noticeable slowness. The whole reason I JB was for the PDANET WiFi and the SBSettings. PDANET 5.30 installed fine, but when I click to turn on the WiFi hotspot, I activate it, but the Wifi hotspot does not stay on nor does the other device see it. SBSettings won’t install, I keep getting multiple http: 1.1 500 internal server error. And it won’t install. Anyone know what I need to do??? Thanks in advance.

This worked perfectly for me! BEFORE doing this though, I had previously updated the IOS to 5.0.1 and installed an earlier version of redsn0w (redsn0w_win_0.9.10b1). I then jailbroke the phone ensuring I selected “select ipsw” (click extras on the first page that opens in the redsn0w application). The 5.0.1 ipsw was saved to the desktop after downloading it. The you go “back” and select “jailbreak.” At this point, tick “install cydia” and “install ipad baseband.” I had done this over and over again without ticking “install ipad baseband” and it would not work because ultrsn0w 1.2.5 (which I had installed previously) is only compatible with firmware 06.15.00. After running the jailbreak this way ultrasn0w kicked in automatically (didn’t need to re-install it) and the phone was unlocked. If at this point you have not installed ultrsn0w – using the Cydia App in the phone – then you need to do this in order to unlock the phone.

So after doing all of this above, when I ran this untethered redsn0w – I made sure NOT to select “install cydia.” (see the notes above). It ran perfectly. iPhone is running untethered – I can turn it on and off without having to run redsn0w each time using a PC.
No problem installing apps now; so far everything seems sweet!

HELP! I created two custom IPSW’s to preserve my baseband, one with Redsn0w and another with Sn0wbreeze. I went into DFU mode and selected the custom IPSW’s to restore but I keep getting errors 1600, 1601, 1602 even after I run iREB. Can someone help?

Will this erase all of my music and photos? I’ve done a few jailbreaks in the past but only one has done this, I just want to know if I should manually back my music up as I never sync, I manage everything manually and not all my music is on my mac.

everyone is jailbreaking and updaying the modmyi source is down and alot of the stuff wont work.. just wait until the server is back or google the sources list ssh into your device and install them manually

Just in case you were having doubts, I can confirm that you can install the iPad baseband on the new bootrom 3GS. I’ve done it on several iPhones with no adverse effects. Just as long as the serial is xx135 or below, you’re fine.

everytime i put in DFU redsn0w starts up fine then goes to the “waiting for reboot” part and the apple icon shows up on my phone and then the phone just turns as normal

So, I followed these instructions, and got the jailbreak onto my ipod. Cydia was installed, but it won’t let me download anything from Cydia that I had on 4.2.1′s untethered jailbreak. It gives me an error message that says, “Note: Cannot Locate Package.

I’ve tried adding a few of the most popular packages, and refreshing the package catalog’s etc. and I don’t know what to do. I’ve heard rumors from friends that the 5.0.1 jailbreak doesn’t work on ipod 4g’s? help please?

just try a hard reboot, hold down the home button and sleep button at the same time then wait till the apple logo appears then release..

Cydia server is having issues…give it a day for the dust to settle….this has happened before, and legit cydia purchases always end up working fine.

Shit, the servers are down. Let me explain you.
Redsn0w fetches the files in your iDevice (to see your IPSW) .
What happens here is that redsn0w acnt connect, keeping you waiting. If you have the time and patience you can download the IPSW for your device and use it with manually select IPSW option in redsn0w

Im not sure if this is the difference, i think if you depends on unlock iphone 4 or if you want unlock iphone 4 (unlocking baseband for iphone 4 1.59.00) you have to download the IPSW file that given by them to preserve the baseband using redsnow.. because when you update it directly to your itunes, it will automatically upgrade your baseband.. And now if you only want a jailbreak iphone 4, i think its easy to update it on your itunes then just jailbreak it with Redsn0w 0.9.10

For everyone who is having problems… Just use the older Redsn0w and download semi-tethered and then install Corona to prevent any weird problems. Fixed mine for sure.

But idk if how i got it is okay. what I did on my tethered iphone was go to cydia, then packages, then removed the old cydia installer, then installed the new 0.9.10.B redsnow and it turns back on without the ISPW and seems like everything is working fine. Is what i did okay?

Hold the power button and home button until you see the white apple logo, this is a hard reset. Open Cydia back up, go to changes and hit refresh. This will allow some sources to work, all sources are not working now due to so many people using Cydia!!!!!

Here’s what happened. I was running hactivated iphone 4 running iOS5 tethered jailbroken device with no problem. A few hours ago I decided to update to iOS 5.0.1 for the untethered jailbreak.

1) Connected my phone to iTunes. right click. Backed up phone.
2) Created custom ipsw with redsnow
3) Restore via itunes using the custom ipsw
4) Jailbroke using redsnow
5) Booted using redsnow

Then I had to set up the phone as a new phone and it did not give me the option to restore from back up. So I went ahead and set it up as a new phone.

Now for my questions:

1) Is cydia buggy for everyone?

2) Why are my update and restore buttons greyed out in iTunes?

3) Does sam prefs work for iOS 5.0.1?

4) Is there anyway I can recover my data? I have the backup file in my itunes.

I now have a untethered jailbroken phone with no push notifications and have lost all my data.
Please please answer me, even if you have the answer to one question.

Download the 5.0.1 stock firmware from the link above and save it to your desktop, of course download resn0w also, after downloads are complete open redsn0w click on extras and go to select ISPW find the 5.0.1 firmware you saved to your desktop, go back and now click jailbreak and follow the rest, make sure idevice is powered off

Yes Cydia is buggy it will probably be for a couple days, I would simply close iTunes and restart my computer and reopen iTunes. Do you have the latest iTunes installed?

When you opened redsn0w did you go to extras and click on select ispw and then open the 5.0.1 firmware you saved and then went back and clicked jailbreak?

You must Jailbreak your phone by using ‘install Cydia’ and ‘install ipad baseband’ options and then try to unlcok using ultrasnow 1.2.5.

Restart your iphone and it’s done. Network is back and working!! Hope this helps…

yes, just download the ipsw and on redsn0w use the preserve baseband option in extras and it will build you a custom ipsw that will be labeled NO BB 5.0.1 saying no baseband upgrade and you’ll use that to update your device via itunes and then you will be able to keep the same baseband and yes you can use your gevey sim with ios 5 if you do what i just told you.

yes it will work.. i had the same configuration with gevey sim.. you need to keep the baseband safe.. you can do that by making a custom IPSW using redsn0w

awesome, it worked!. Updated essential files. After it fiinished, reprung, relaunched cydia, refreshed, located corona, installed, *rebooted*, and all was still fine

refreshing and updating everything does take awhile, especially if not all sources are able to be updated.

Help, after jailbreaking untethered my iPhone 4 can’t launch all apps, only stock apps, all other apps opens and then loading and closes almost immediatly. Cydia apps like bitesms dont work they install well but cant be used, neither winterboard, i download it and it appears on homescreen but it doesnt respond when I change themes or anything Tried to both check and uncheck Cydia when jailbreaking.. In Redsnow -> extras there is only “Just boot” “Pwned DFU” “Recovery fix” “SHSH blobs” “Select IPSW” “Custom IPSW” “Preferences”. Im guessing its select IPSW but i have no idea what IPSW is so i don’t know what to load

I just followed these instructions above, but it “upgraded” by modem firmware from 05.12.01 to 05.15.05, which seems to be incompatible with ultrasn0w and so now my unlock is not working.

When i try to install “WinterBoard” on IPod 4G–IOS:5.0.1 Cydia gives me a “Cannot Compy” Then under that “Note: The requested modifications cannot be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that connot be automatically found or fixed” under that it says “Continue Queuing”. At the bottom it also says WinterBoard Depends on preferenceloader and libhide >= 2.0.4. Please help a newb ;D

That means it is proberly already on 5.0.1 ;D But ignore step 1′s restore and carry on

It means you should backup your iPod first, and restore with the IPSW files (shift + restore) .
Then, you can choose the options “Restore from backup”. Done. cheers.

Put you device into DFU mode after you click ‘jailbreak’ like it shows in the video tutorial above. I tried the written method first and had the same problem.

To my knowledge there is not yet an untethered break for the 4S.

No.. don’t follow this, this would update your baseband to latest : 4.11.XX and you won’t be able to unlock for other carrier. Instead, download stock 5.0.1 firmware and use snowbreeze to create custom ipsw, and use the custom created ipsw in itunes, so that your baseband would remain : 3.10.1 !! !

Probably you used the wrong IPSW files. Please double check it.

Download the Snowbreeze that is capable of creating custom IPSW for your stock 5.0.1 ipsw file. After that use itunes to restore the custom IPSW (NOT DIRECTLY FROM ITUNES).. so that your baseband will be preserved and remain to 1.59.00.

I am guessing Bigboss repo is overwhelmed by all us jailbreakers trying to get our stuff all at the same time. I did a bunch of googling to find repos that contained the tweaks I wanted and dependencies that were needed and added them to get the stuff.

Remove cydia from background apps and try to reload on Cydia home.
Alternatively, google for preferenceloader.deb and libhide.deb, download them. Use ifunbox and put them in cydia app install folder. Reboot your phone and try reinstalling winterboard. This method worked for me while installing ultrasn0w and mobilesubstrate.

I would prefer using redsn0w or ifaith as you can stitch your API tickets along with SHSH blobs. So you don’t have to worry about downgrading if you keep this stitched ipsw. Not sure if sn0wbreeze is updated to do that…

Yes, I am having the same issue, I believe it is because the cydia servers are being overloaded. By the mass of people who are jailbreak untethered right now, although this has been happening to me since 4pm EST yesterday. So im hoping we can get this bug resolved asap.

I’ve got a program crush while “Uploading First Stage” and then I must exit the redsn0w. Then I have to restore my iphone 4 with iTune. It happens again and again even I have reboot my computer (Win XP).

Check if you have some proxy setup for internet. I had the same issues when i tried it at my work. It also crashes if your usb port isn’t working. which processor is your XP on 64/32bit processor? if 64 go to task manager, select redsn0w and set affinity to 0.

Make sure the extension is .ipsw and not .zip. If its .zip change it to ipsw.

reboot and see if it still doesn’t work. Go to settings->General ->Reset->Reset network settings.

What’s the extension of your downloaded ios file? if its .zip then rename it to .ipsw

I had the same issue. I went and hit the refresh button in the changes tab. You might need to try this a few times before it really works. Downloading/updating the packages seem to take a while. Be patient and it will update and then you can download apps.

Just Jailbroke my iPhone 4 running 5.0.1! Everything is working flawlessly including “Safari” and “iBooks”. Only issue is Cydia is telling me “POSIX: Operation timed out” but that should be due to the system being overloaded. Can’t wait until all the bugs get sorted out! Thanks pod2g!

no joy. I’ve been redoing all this procedure to the letter for 3 hours but it just keeps restarting without jailbreaking, like tanin said, the Cydia icon doesn’t appear.

3) the video doesn’t show if I need to restore specifically using the IPSW file (iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore) from this page and HOW???

4) I double clicked on the IPSW file and iTunes took over with the restore… (was this correct the way?)

5) Redsnow version from this page does NOT have “Battery Percentage” after clicking on JAILBREAK: It just shows Install Cydia, Install custom bundle, Enable multitask gestures, deactivate

6) Proceeded with Jailbreak DFU as shown in video, but it is stuck for 20 minutes+ with command lines in white text with last lines:

Yes error..major malfunction….Trubble when updating sources, lots of time outs. trubble when trying to instal more sources. time outs, POSIX error and so on. On Cydias front page for an example ther is grooveshark but when trying to instal source not found, And some indexfiles failed to download. “how the fuck is major malfunction and what the hel is he doing in my iPhone”

I had the same issue when trying to reinstall cydia.. Use custom firmware of u want to preserve baseband. U need restore again.

You need to click next before putting it phone in DFU mode. Once the clock starts ticking then put it in DFU MODE

Not necessary as redsn0w would download the files for u.

For IOS 5+ you need both shsh blobs and API tickets so use extras feature in redsn0w to fetch them

Are you relying on ultrasn0w unlock then install ultrasn0w else it should be fine.

Throw your phone as hard as you can against the wall. That should do the trick.

i just jailbroke my device last night, and if you already have a jailbroken iphone, i recommend that you keep it that way. jailbreak 5.0.1 has way to many bugs and nothing works.

well even if you found a way to save them, updating is the worst thing you can possibly do. installous doesn’t work on 5.0.1. the new jailbreak screws up your phone as well.

Did a clean Update & Jailbroke from a stock 5.0.1 only problem is Cydia not refreshing correctly POSIX error.. I can add some sources and install some packages but not many.. when I install Installous and it tell me to respring i get a blank springboard with only the bookshelf and nothing else.. then I have to do a power off/on and everything is back.. Installous rejects every app download and doesn’t even start.. just says error unexpected content..

Always a good idea, though I don’t think anyone knows how to use them to restore to older versions of iOS 5.XX quite yet. It’s kind of a potential ‘maybe we can use these someday’ kinda thing. Better to have them than not.

Took me 3 computers to find one where Redsn0w worked. I think the USB DFU driver that Windows installs doesn’t always play well with the USB port speed or something. I actually had to use the previous version of Redsn0w and then use the Corona untether in Cydia to finally get it done, but it only worked on the newer laptop in my household.

do not update as of right now if you want a jailbroken iphone/ipad/ipod. the jailbreak is highly unstable as of right now. majority of the cydia apps don’t work. i am currently restoring my iphone as we speak because the jailbreak screwed my phone up. i was no longer able to enter my sound settings.

I had been on the tethered 5.0.1 for a month and everything was running great until I installed Resupported4+ Monday and then my phone got in a boot loop and I had to restore again and of course jailbreak. This time around I got a lot of errors. I think it is because the repos where the tweaks and files are (Bigboss) is being inundated with a TON of people all connecting in at once trying to get jailbreak tweaks and dependencies.. hence the errors. I think things will smooth out as the crowd density hitting these servers disperses.

I think you might need to be in PWND DFU mode to restore cause once you jailbreak you always have to use DFU mode to restore (my experience anyway)

try this it work for me oniphone 3gs ipad basband

1. Connected the phone to my mac and launched iTunes.
2. Removed the sim-card from the phone.
3. Put the phone in DFU mode to do a recovery with iTunes.
4. When itunes was done and the phone had booted I started redsn0w (Using version: 0.9.9b5).
5. Put the phone back in DFU-mode so i can jailbreak it.
6. When I got to the select options in redsn0w, I selected “Install Cyda”, “Install ipad baseband” and “de-activate phone”
7. Waited for it to finish(this may take long but keep on waiting for a bit), and after it booted up I got the message “No sim card inserted”. I then inserted my sim-card
8. choose do not enable location services when asked to set up phone(i did that, but im not sure if u need to do that or not)
9. Continued with the ios 5 setup on the phone and had no issue activating it nor did I get “no service”-message after setup was done.

i had the same issue. Use the recovery fix option in redsn0w. Manually specify the correct ISPW (with the Select ISPW button), then click Recovery Fix. From there, you’ll restore the device via itunes, then jailbreak in the standard fashion, then install the Corona 5.0.1 untethered thing (search for it in Cydia).

I jailbreaked my iPhone 4 with Redsn0w 0.9.10b2 and unlocked it with gevey sim fine but sometimes when I reboot it sticks on the apple logo and it’s a pain to get it up. I have to plug it into my computer and it starts or even have to use iBooty to get it up. Anyone else getting this problem? I was on 4.2.1 bb 3.10.0 and used a sn0wbreeze custom restore. I had a frustrating evening las night and was so relieved that eventually I could reset to my old firmware 4.3.1.
After jailbreaking to 501 it was stuck in recovery mode, tried everything such as iRed (program for windows which doesn’t start up and you cannot specify your operating system. I tried several versions..), Recboot doesn’t work, fixrecovery doesn’t work, and finally letting ITunes do the job which didn’t work.
ALSO THIS JAILBREAK IS HIGHLY UNSTABLE AND I RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO WAIT..and enjoy the last days of 2011

that happened to me and i just booted tether with redsnow and that fixed it, and i know that’s weird because in my case the jailbreak was untether.

does it first start serching and then no service? is your wifi not working? if your answer to these questions if yes, you got no signal and no wifi, try what i answered to TBone above and that might solve your problems. let me know if it fix the problem

Jail breaking should be fine but unlocking depends on which BootRom your iphone is using….If you have the old BootRom then you should be Ok… You will need to install the Ipad BaseBand through Redsn0w….Then install Ultrasn0w through Cydia….. If you have the New BootRom you might still be able to do it, you will need to check your Serial number (3,4,5 digits). This will tell you the year and week your phone was made…. Your looking for the digits to read **034 ****** and below, the zero means 2010 and 34 means week 34….. So for example mine was **019****** and it unlocked fine. If your serial is higher than **034****** then I wouldn’t risk it…… I had the same worries and the above is exactly what I was told….As it worked for me I have no reason to think I was wrongly advised, but beware there is always the chance it can go wrong….

4.(this step might be optional, but i got itunes errors and this was the workaround to the errors) Go to resnow>extras>SHSH bobs>stitch. Choose the 5.0.1 shsh blob saved by the tiny umbrella in your computer and the custom ipsw which you created in step 3. Now redsnow will make another custom firmware for you.
5.Go to redsnow>extras>Pwned Dfu. Follow the instructions and put the phone in dfu mode.
6.Open tiny umbrella and start tss server.As a cautionary measure uncheck SET HOST TO CYDIA ON EXIT on the advanced tab of tiny umbrella.
7.Open itunes
8. Option + click restore.
9.Choose the firmware that was built in step 4.
10.DONE.

the step 4 should fix itunes errors. See if it helps.

Are those cracked games? If they are cracked games you need to install appsync from cydia first .

Ok, seriously frustrated NOW!! Tried to use iFaith to create restore ipsw, downloaded an ipsw, said it couldn’t parse or something so I let iFaith download an ipsw for me, and it still said it was wrong and was I sure it was an ipsw file?? Decided to try redsn0w extras, used the ipsw from iClarified and got the same stupid message!! WTF How on earth as I supposed to create a custom ipsw if none are accepted????

I understand your nervousness, but honestly most of the negative responses are down to user error…. If your a little scared then the best advice is to double check your iphone’s details, BaseBand..BootRom Version…Current Firmware Version, just make sure you know everything about your phone….Then find a guide and video and read through and watch at least twice before you start. If in doubt ask, Cydia seems to be the main complaint I’ve read about, people aren’t taking into account the heavy traffic and are blaming the jailbreak….

Most problems happen because people rush in, they think they know what they are doing and end up with problems and then blame the jailbreak software…

I have done my daughters 3gs (old BootRom), My Sons 3gs (old BootRom) and my 3gs (new BootRom) my only hick-up was unlocking mine, but soon resolved simply by removing ultrasn0w, re-installing, turn off the phone and re-boot via redsn0w tethered, inserted sim waited for carrier to show and re-booted….Bingo untethered, unlocked.

I can’t help with iphone 4, but my experience with the 3gs’s is that it is relatively easy as long as you take your time and make sure you know about your phone, don’t just guess.

Just download some program to browse your iPod’s files like a hard drive, and you can make a copy of your music and pictures (and probably a lot of other stuff that’s all I bothered to do) and then just restore your ipod on itunes with whatever your last backup is if you need your apps dearly, or just do a default restore if you don’t mind re-downloading apps. Then wait for a jailbreak that actually works, because this one just screws everyone over.
Oh, and a good program for this is iFunBox.
