Angry Birds is the gaming phenomena of this decade. The pig hunting game is now available on almost all platforms of note, whether it be iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 or the web browsers such as Google Chrome. But there are still some places left for Angry Birds to go and hunt down the egg eating pigs. Apparently, Facebook’s gaming platform is one such place. It is being reported that Angry Birds will be hitting .
Rovio has not disclosed if there would be a new version/season of the game for the Facebook release, but reports are indicating that the Facebook release would be more pig heavy as compared to other seasons. The move would be immense for Rovio, since it would mark Rovio’s first entry into a social media arena. We would have to wait and see, what kind of social networking features or tasks would be built into the upcoming Facebook season. The current versions of Angry Birds are stand alone games that could very well be played by lonely individuals.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed has already indicated that the upcoming Facebook season would include new aspects and a more collaborative feel to it. This is certainly good news for avid Angry Birds fans who have already played Angry Birds to death during the past 2 years or so. Rovio definitely needs a new angle to the Birds and Pigs story now, and provide collaborative features could be one such angle.
Facebook’s gaming platform is currently dominated by Zynga, with gaming giants like EA trying to catch on social gaming by means of acquisitions. Rovio’s entry in this space does have the potential to shake up things. If Angry Birds could acquire the top spot in Facebook as well, it would enable Rovio to piggy back that success into other future games in a similar way as has been done by Zynga for quiet so long now.
