Back in July we reported that Apple has bypassed Nokia to to become the world’s top smartphone maker by manufacturer. Another big shoot by Apple to pass Nokia is about to happen. According to DigiTimes, by the end of 2011 Apple will have sold 86.4 million iPhone while Nokia will decline to 74.4 million units only.
By these numbers, Apple again beats Nokia. Apple is expected to overtake Nokia as the top ranking vendor in terms of shipment volume and lead smartphone shipment in 2011.
Apple’s shipments this year is doubled since last year while Nokia is getting less than the last year:
Apple’s smartphone shipments are projected to top 86.4 million units in 2011, up 82% from 47.5 million units in 2010. In contrast, Nokia’s smartphone shipments in 2011 will decline to 74.4 million units from over 100 million in 2010, said Luke Lin, analyst for Digitimes Research.
Although this achievement Apple made, the game is not over yet as DigiTimes research shows that Android makers (Samsung, HTC, LG, Huawei and ZTE) have all showed better percentage gains than Apple.
