Don’t Update To iOS 5.1 Today, Dev Team Warns!

Only less than 15 minutes away from Apple’s event today, the iPhone Dev Team posted a new article on their blog warning jailbreakers from upgrading to iOS 5.1 GM which is expected to be released today along with the iPad 3 launch.

iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for A4 devices has been released by pod2g followed by iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1. Most of jailbreakers has already upgraded to iOS 5.0.1 so that they can the untethered jailbreak but once Apple release iOS 5.1 to the public, you might lose your jailbreak if you updated to the new firmware.

In all likelihood we’ll see the GM “gold master” version of 5.1 this week. DO NOT UPDATE TO 5.1, because you may lose your jailbreak! The rest of this post details the subtleties with this rule, but if there’s only one message to take home, it’s the overall “do not update” message!

The iPhone Dev Team advices jailbreakers to save iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs because as soon as iOS 5.1 appears on Apple’s public servers, Apple will stop signing iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs.

So now you’re warned! Keep away from iOS 5.1 unless you’ve SHSH blobs and want to give it a try!

    You wont be able to downgrade because there is no 5.1 jail broken firmware yet to downgrade from. :-p

    im having problems jailbreaking my ipad 2 with 4.3.3 (jailbreaked) to 5.0.1 because of the release of the latest 5.1
    Is it now hopless for me to update to 5.0.1 and jailbreak my ipad2? Itunes wont let me update to 5.0.1 anymore…please help me :(

    So I told my friend to save her shsh blobs a while back and now not to upgrade to 5.1.
    When I go to jailbreak her iPad 2 (with a Mac) will I still only have to do that simple jailbreak or will I have to do something will the blobs as well since apple stopped singing

    yes, Apple imediatly stopped signing 5.0.1 when 5.1 came out. There was no cross over time as they wanted to kill the 5.0.1 jailbreak.

    Damn, saw the post too late. Upgraded my Ipad to 5.1 and lost everything. God, I feel the dumbest woman on the planet. I got this app saying that it couldnt be installed because it required a newer version of the iPad software, so i just looked for updates and ran the damn thing. ALL my freaking cydia apps are gone. All the cool tweaks, gone. Damn you, Apple!

    Not necessarily. You can download the 5.0.1 IPSW on google. Just simply type “iPad 2 5.0.1 IPSW Download” and it’ll come up.

    Then on iTunes what you have to do is press shift + click update

    Locate the IPSW and double click that one. It’ll update to that firmware.

    I never update once my device is jailbroken waste of time 5.01 will be good enough for a couple years heck my parents are still on 4.0 and can still download aps and everything

    I switched to an unlocked iphone 4 and i was giving my 3gs to my kid, i made the mistake of restoring unlocked jb 3gs, now it’s in recovery mode. Is there a way to re-jb and unlock or am i screwed?
