Redsn0w 0.9.9b2

Changelog from the dev-team blog:

Version 0.9.9b2 has been released with fixes and enhancements related to: Verizon iPhone4 firmware detection, Fix Recovery, Stitching, and blob processing.  If you encountered a problem with any of these in the b1 version, please try b2 and leave any feedback below!

Redsnow 0.9.9b2 doesn’t bring untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.5. It, as previous, jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 4.3.4 tethered only while iOS 4.3.3 is untethered.

You can check our previous post about Redsn0w 0.9.9 b1 for everything you need to know about that version. Guides and all features can be found here.

While we’re waiting for the iPhone 5  /4S announcement later today, we’ve to tell you that both the iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team have their own untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.

P0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team, during MyGreatFest, has announced that the team has 5 new userland jailbreak exploits while will be available once the new mystery device is released. The new jailbreak on the horizon will support iPad 2 on iOS 5.

This is rather strange. I just got iPhone 4 which came with IOS 435 just 2 days ago and went ahead to jailbreak it. Something strange to note…. I was expecting that every time my phone shutdown and I have to reboot, I will need Redsn0w around to start the phone up, as in the behavior of a tethered jailbreak. But this was not so (which is a good but strange thing). I did the jailbreak following instructions as per following steps:
    1. Restored with iTunes to IOS 435.
    2. Boot up connected to iTunes. Carrier updated and working.
    3. Jailbreak with Redsn0w with IOS 434 selected. After which, I noticed the phone reboots without having to use Redsn0w. But, Cydia appears as white logo and when launched, it just shuts down. Safari is also not working.
    4. Shutdown the phone totally and turn it on without connecting to PC. Phone reboots without having to use Redsn0w to boot up successfully!! Again Cydia appears as white logo.
    5. Launched Redsn0w, shut the phone down, put phone into DFU, selected “Just boot” in Redsn0w. Phone boots up and Cydia logo appears. Tried using Safari, it works. Tried using Cydia, it works!!
    6. Disconnected phone from PC, shutdown the phone totally again and turn it on without connecting to PC. As before, phone boots up successfully without having to use Redsn0w! But the catch is… Cydia and Safari are both not working.
The point to note is that, I do not need to suffer the stuck at recovery mode screen in case my battery turns dead and I do not have Redsn0w around. It’s sort of a half un-tethered jailbreak I have here.
