Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d To Fix iPhone 3GS Issues On iOS 5.0.1

Used the new beta 9 Redsn0w to update 3gs with old bootrom from 4.0.1 to 5.0.1. Made a custom IPSW in redsn0w to avoid changing baseband – but on reboot with custom IPSW, I can’t activate the phone without an official sim. I’ve tried downloading an ‘activated’ IPSW from ‘iphonerock’, but Redsn0w wont accept it… Any ideas to help me get unlocked and bypass activation??

For anyone else with similar problem – I fixed it – as Redsn0w would not accept the IPSWs, I went via iTunes (option restore) with that ‘activated’ IPSW – I was worried it would update my baseband but it didn’t as its obviously a custom IPSW that iphonerock created…

Running 5.0.1 now with no problems – jailbroken and unlocked.

I guess I can look this up, but within your article next time could you describe the problem that the updated redsn0w is meant to fix? Maybe if we were within the original thread then, “iPhone3GS owners in our comments section below noticed a problem with the untethered jailbreak available for the old-bootrom 3GS. We’ve corrected that problem in 0.9.9b9d” would make sense.

I’ve got a 3GS running 5.0.1 and the only bug I’ve found is that the red phone “badge” is on all the time, even if there are no new voicemail messages to access. The only way to get rid of the badge is to turn it off entirely — which deprives me of a useful indicator that I’ve got a call.

Was that what the fix fixed? I’ll try to find where to look that up now….

BTW, thanks for keeping us up to date, and for all your jailbreaking work. Your efforts are much appreciated, even if we occasionally gripe.

You will have to wait like the rest of us they are working on it for the 5.0.1 but the tests are still inconclusive.. They are hoping it will come out within the next few weeks..

i rebooted my iphone 4 on ios 5.0.1 with above redsnow link for windows…It said internal error occured, my apple logo disappeared, used just boot thrice->internal error occured, went to jailbreak option->unknown error occured, itunes not recognizing, MY IPHONE GOT BRICKED,finally restarted my pc, itunes detected it in recovery mode…plz tell me where did i go wrong…any help will be appreciated…

This was ment for Iphone 3GS users… If I were you, I would wait for the official unteathered jb. All you have to do is restore it in Itunes. Then jb using 0.9.9b8

Not new to this process, but need some help. I have a 3gs that was jailbroken and unlocked running 4.3.3 on the old bootrom and on a compatible BB. I created a custom ipsw using this latest version of redsn0w in order to upgrade to ios 5.0.1. Created the NO_BB version of the ipsw and followed the instructions to restore to the custom ipsw using iTunes. (I DID use the NO_BB version). After the phone was restored, itunes gave me the ‘incompatible SIM’ message, which I expected since I had a Tmobile SIM in it. I then tried 3 times to run redsn0w to jailbreak it and every time after the first few stages succeed and the phone reboots, it gave the error message about unable to fetch data. So, I’m stuck. Furthermore, I can’t get past the basic setup stage and I’m unable to actually use the phone in any way (even as an ipod). It only allows for an emergency call or to start the setup again.

I checked my BB using TinyUmbrella and it’s still on the safe BB, but I am unable to jailbreak, let alone continue on with the unlocking process using Ultrasn0w.

I need some help. The phone is stuck in the initial setup modes. I’ve checked everything and I followed all the rules. Please advise.

Are you a PC user or Mac? I’m trying to figure out if this solution will work for me (Mac). I did the exact same thing as you w the custom ipsw process and am stuck in the setup mode of the phone. i only have a tmobile SIM with me.

the boot does not work for me now thats ive jailbroken the device. so even though i hav downloaded the jailbreak software i now have to boot the device to make use of cydia. hheellpp!!
