Here’s some iOS 5 exciting news. BGR got some information about iOS 5 release date and the iPhone 5 launch from a trusted source. The source confirms the previous expected time frame which indicated that iOS 5 GM coming on September 23rd and iPhone 5 will be packaged with this GM build for early October launch.
Apple seed iTunes 10.5 beta 8 last week without releasing iOS 5 beta 8. BGR sources say that iOS 5 beta 8 will be available for download this Friday, September 16th. After releasing beta 8 for developers, Apple will release iOS 5 GM on or around September 23rd as rumored just yesterday.
This iOS 5 GM build will be loaded to the assembled iPhone 5 hardware which is currently waiting for final build of iOS 5.
Time frame to follow as reported:
Apple will then request that carrier partners give technical acceptance to the Gold Master by October 5th if there are no issues with it. What’s not clear is what Apple will do if the Gold Master doesn’t pass technical acceptance for some reason, though odds are it will still be loaded on the iPhone 5 at launch with a software update made available almost immediately following the device’s release.
We’re currently waiting for Apple to send invites for its much-waited event to introduce the iPhone 5 and announce iOS 5 release date. We’re assuming that the invites will be sent out within the next couple of days. This event is expected to be on the 21st, by that date, Apple will have to release the GM on the same day or within a few days of the keynote, hence BGR’s report of it being the 23rd.
So most likely that will be the timeline:
- iOS 5 beta 8 on Friday, September 16th
- iOS 5 GM on Friday, September 23rd
- iPhone 5 pre-orders on Friday, September 30th
- iOS 5 public launch from October 5th to 7th
- iPhone 5 launch on from October 7th to 14th
