Jailbreak iOS 5 GM iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad And iPod touch With Redsn0w 0.9.9b3

Following the release of iOS 5 GM, MuscleNerd has announced that today’s released Redsn0w 0.9.9b2 can jailbreak iOS 5 GM on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch. We’ve a quick guide below to show you how to jailbreak iOS 5 GM using Redsn0w 0.9.9b2 (update below).

As usual, the jailbreak is not untethered yet. iOS 5 GM untethered jailbreak will be available once it’s released to public, not in GM release. Below is the full steps.

UPDATE: Redsn0w 0.9.9b3 has been released to jailbreak iOS 5 GM without need to point to iOS 5 beta 7.

Jailbreak iOS 5 GM

STEP 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b3 ( – ).

STEP 2: Download iOS 5 GM for your iOS device from here.

STEP 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.9b3, Extras then Select IPSW and point redsn0w to the iOS 5 GM downloaded above.

STEP 4: Now hit OK and get back to the main screen then click on Jailbreak and redsn0w 0.9.9b3 will begin its work. You’ll get your device in DFU mode by following the on-screen instruction then you’re there

Few minutes later you’ll get your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch jailbroken on iOS 5 GM.

NOTE: This jailbreak won’t work on iPad 2. For iPad 2 users, you have to wait for iOS 5 final release to get your jailbreak.

    It’s tethered. You will have to use RedSn0w every boot.

    So, even though I have iOS5 GM installed do I have to point Redsnow to IOS5 beta 7 ipsw? I tried to point it to the GM ipsw but it says its unsupported. I just want to check before I try pointing it to beta 7.

    I tried this, but iTunes tells me that my iPhone isn’t eligible for this build. I have the iPhone 4 and downloaded all the files.

    You need to be sure you are using iTunes 10.5 beta 9 (mac) or beta 7 (windows)

    -Cydia icon is all white. Can’t open it. Also i checked “enable battery percentage” and didn’t work either.. i think is not working. Also, link for itunes 10.5.7 beta is not woking, i had to look for it on TPB. It was a dmg too, but, power iso does the magic.

    @xanhellx- this is a TETHERED jailbreak meaning you need to use redsn0w to boot your device everytime it turns off including if you have to restart it to get your cydia to work you need to go back to redsn0w and go to extras then you need to select your ipsw and then select just boot tethered now let it run its course and follow directions it will do the jailbreak and then turn back on at which time you will be able to use your cydia and eveyrthing should work right if you have any more questions just ask…

    I made a newb mistake, and attempted to jailbreak my iphone 4 before installing ios 5 gm via itunes 10.5 beta 9. Now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and Itunes will not install ANY ipsw, custom or not, ios5 GM or any other releases.. Any ideas how to get me out of this situation?

    Go back and run redsn0w again, re-jailbreak reboot and run redsnow and just boot tethered right now.

    With an iPhone 4, I was able to restore to iOS 5 GM and jailbreak, and then use the tethered boot. Everything works great except that I have no cell service. Any ideas?

    There’s a final step missing in this tutorial.

    After you first jailbreak cydia icon will be white and that’s ok.
    Turn off your phone and open RedSn0w again and choose Extras then “Just boot”.
    This gets you to tether boot your jailbroken device.

    I used Sn0wBreeze 2.8b8 only to create a custom firmware file .IPSW file to keep my phone’s old baseband (to keep it unlockable)

    -Thank you man. It was dumb to post that so early, but i didn’t figured it out at the time. I knew it was tethered, but to be honest, i never tried any tethered JB before. Your solution worked great. ios5 is fucking sweet, i’m just waiting for an official notification center Facebook widget and photo share. I hope i get that once is realeased officially.

    BTW, i found the battery percentage in general settings, lol. Sorry about that.

    you’ll have to boot while keeping the phone stuck in your ass.. so no it’s not untethered. it’s even worth.. YOU will have to keep it forever in your ass in order to make Cydia work on your IMEI..

    Freakin Tethered Sucks . It Always Crashes Into Safe Mode And Then It Wont Restart So I Have To restore my whole entire ipod . all day i have only installed 6 tweaks so far and i have done this at least 10 times . it is really pissing me off . i cannot wait until the untethered version comes out .

    Hello got a few problems with my iTouch 4G I’ve had the iOS5 Jailbreak for at least 3 weeks with no problems re booting every time the battery dies on me, but this time it won’t turn on after the battery has died for some reason it won’t charge it just bleeps, as it does when you plug it in to charge but the little loading circle in the center spins once then freezes and bleeps and tries again. Help please would be greatly appreciated.
