Downgrade iPhone 4S, iPad 2 iOS 5.1 To iOS 5.0.1 Now Possible!

A5 based devices have little luck with jailbreaks and similar procedures. Apple has tightened the noose in it’s latest devices. Nevertheless people with A5 based devices, which are iPhone 4S and iPad 2, should be overjoyed as well known Canadian iOS hacker has discovered a new exploit. This exploit allows A5 device owners to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1.

iH8sn0w made his discovery public via earlier today. The exploit he has discovered can prove to be very helpful. iH8sn0w says that this exploit will also be usable with A5X based devices, but only once Apple pushes out a new firmware version for it. The New iPad is the only A5X device available as of now.

As mentioned previously, this exploit in Apple’s apticket system can prove to be very helpful. There is no jailbreak, tethered or untethered, available for A5 based devices on iOS 5.1. A new jailbreak has been teased by iPhone Dev Team and Stefan Esser, but they’re far from release. Those who have mistakenly upgraded their iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 can not jailbreak it now because none is available for it. iOS 5.0.1 is the only firmware that can be jailbroken untethered on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 right now. Being able to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 will prove to be very beneficial for those who have mistakenly upgraded A5 devices.

Do keep in mind that saved iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs will probably be an imperative component in order to downgrade iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1. You’re set if you saved iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs when it was possible, because now it isn’t. iH8sn0w hasn’t revealed any more details regarding this exploit and I don’t expect he will until it’s ready for release. iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken untethered on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 right now using Absinthe for both Windows and Mac.     @Nom0777: Sure, but not an Iphone 4s! It is possible with an Iphone 4 and older and now also 4s!

    @Allan: No, each Iphone/Ipad has its own SHSH blobs. Did you Jailbreak your Device b4? If so, Cydia might have your blobs on server.

    I had a ipad 2. upgraded to 5.1 by mistake. I had saved shsh blobs on tiny umbrella. I read somewhere (can’t remember) about iFaith. It creates a custom ipsw. Downgrade worked like a charm.

    Hi, I’m sorry but I didn’t understand well. It’s available the downgrade from 5.1 to 5.0.1 for iPhone 4s, or not?… I think the message is confuse, because for the title I undestand yes, but reading the complete article I think so not. Please could you help me?…

    Hi, I also found this article confusing. As of the latest update on cydiahelp, you can only downgrade your IOS 5.1 to 5.01 if you saved your 5.01 SHSH blob. But if you didn’t save it and accidentally upgraded it to 5.1 then you’re screwed. It’s the same reason that the author didn’t include this in his article. I have the same problem too and kept searching for answers regarding this matter.

    Same for me. My iPad 2 crashed and wouldn’t turn on, forcing me to restore it through iTunes. A very bad deal, it was.. I waited months for the iOS 5 jailbreak, now I will have to wait months again for the 5.1.

    i dont think it make sense. i just saw on 1 article that 5.1 jailbreak is nearly on its way, why cant, until now, ih8snow tell in public the way he downgraded his ipad2 in 5.1 to 5.0.1 if pod2g already twitted that he have all the exploits required to do a new jailbreak and he’s working on bypassing aslr at boot up which means this jailbreak for 5.1 is nearly coming right? how is pod2g and ih8snow related?are they on different team? or is it just this article is since march25 and the other article is april18? but why is this downgrade for a5 devices still unknown?
