I havent downgrad by doıng these ınstructıons. I havent exıted receovery mode wıth TınyUmbrella or Recboot or others. I watched vıdeos and spent 6 hours to do ıt howver nothıng happen.

Uh… this won’t work for downgrading from 5.0.1 to 5.0. The SHSH model has changed; unique keys from Apple are required for each individual restore, and Cydia can’t replicate them yet.

Hello.. Are you forgetting to let people know that if you downgrade back to 4.x.x you’ll need to down grade your iTunes to 10.4

Get your 4.3.3 ipsw then use sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 make a custom ipsw , change your host file like they say above, use iTunes 10.4 (I found some good directions on YouTube ) and run tinyumbrella (cross your fingers and say a tiny prayer then knock on some wood) the directions I used to downgrade iTunes / if I can find them I’ll repost. ( sn0wbreeze never changes your baseband )

No need to use 10.4,itunes 10.5 also work. But instead of receive error 10xx,we will receive error 1. So after erorr 1,use fixrecovery to kickout from recovery loop rather than using tinyumbrella or recboot.

I’m trying to downgrade from ios 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 and every time I try ITunes gets stuck in “iTunes is preparing iPod for restore” and then gets the error 1604. I got stuck in recovery mode, and had to upgrade through iTunes to 5.0.1 without the Shift+Restore method. I couldn’t use the pre-downloaded firmware. This really sucks. Hahaha. I have lost my SHSH, so now Jailbreaking will be even harder for me. Grrr!! I should have stuck with 5.0.

Then I try DFU fix, and tether boot, but it just goes back to my iOS5 =/

You need to put i nthe sim card. IF you don’t have it you need to know what brand it is locked to (eg. vodafone or AT&T etc.) and then you put that brand sim card in the phone. So if my phone was locked to vodafone i’d put a vodafone sim card in and it’s fine

I tried doing this earlier and got 1.5 million errors, following the tutorial perfectly, I managed to fix most of them by using iREB, TinyUmbrella TTS Server, and downgrading iTunes to 10.4.1, all except one. Right before the restore to 4.3.3 was finished, I got error 1015, I was stuck in DFU mode and nothing could get me out of it, I tried recboot. I tried redsn0w’s fix recovery feature, redsn0w just crashed. And to top it all off, iTunes didn’t detect my iPhone, so I updated it to 10.5 and that seemed to fix it. I ended up doing a clean restore back to 5.0.1, since my device was bricked. I plan to try again tomorrow, can someone tell me how to kick my device out of DFU mode and fix error 1015? This is all on an iPhone 3GS with a 4.3.3 SHSH blob on Cydia.

Before start any downgrade i recommend you to do as follow:

Go To Control Panel > Programs and Features and remove the following programs:

iTunes
Bonjour
Apple mobile device
Apple application support
Apple softeware update
Quick Time
When you are done removing those programs, Download and install iTunes 10.4.1

then launch Tinyumbrella … and don’t forget to start TSS server before launch custom restore on itunes

You should have moved the ios 5 that you have downloaded to another location. when the 5.0.1 update came out, itunes deleted the ios 5 that you have on your computer

I have an jailbroken iPhone 4, I try to downgrade it from 5.0 to 4.3.3 using the steps above but I used the TSS server in tiny umbrella so I didnt get error 3194 however I got error 1 when the restore is about 70% done. Then it goes to recovery mode and can’t be fixed using both fix recovery and exit recovery. So I had to upgrade to 5.0.1. I think I have to update to the latest version of iTunes and uncheck the set hosts to cydia on exit in tiny umbrella and edit the host file manually. Then un jailbreak device before downgrade or error1 will show.

I encountered the USB problem on things like: I forgot to put my phone in pwned mode. Sometimes I just close iTunes and start again with the pwned again.

If you have error 1 when you downgrade from iOS 5 to iOS4 you have luck. Just use fixrecovery43 to kick out your device from the recovery loop. Open fixrecovery, put your iDevice in DFU-mode and the rest will make it itself.:)

Do you noticed an errorcode? For example error 1013, error 1 etc…? if any of these errorcodes coming up, use fixrecovery or recboot to kick out your iDevice from the recovery loop. Don´t forget to put your iDevice in DFU-mode before using fixrecovery.

Followed your instructions and everything appeared ok. But….in the end itunes showed “There is no sim card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate” but there is a sim card installed. And the iphone screen showing plug in lead to itunes. What do I do next?

no funcionó, al tratar de realizar la restauración presenta el error 1 y cuando tratamos de aplicar el RecBoot la pantalla se queda en blanco y de ahi no pasa, mi iPhone tenia la version 5.0.1 con el baseband 4.11.08 y no funcionó. I downgraded from 5.0.1 to 4.3.5 using tiny umbrella and itunes 10.5. Then I realized 4.3.5 doesn’t have a jailbreak. Installed itunes 10.3.1 and downgraded with a single error. This is on windows 7 and a 4th generation ipod touch. All my apps gone, which I was expecting. Uninstall all apple products and the itunes library (mine is in the music folder)

If you don’t have SHSH saved for your versions then there is no use of reading this article as the downgrade is only possible if you have SHSH saved for the particular version! WTF WTFFFFF NOOOOOOOOOOOOO SO IM STUCK ON ios5.0.1? NOOOO WTF !

I did the same after I did all the steps to fix the signal issue like repo 66 fix in Cydia; resetting all network connections etc….

Here is how to fix it mate

download tiny umbrella 5.00; iREB-r4; snowbreeze 2.2.1 for building custom IPSW for iOS 4.2; iOS you want to downgrade to. I downgraded from 5.1 to 4.2.1

Connect ur device to the PC and run tiny umbrella check if its showing saved shsh blobs. if so proceed with the next step –

start TSS server in tiny umbrella and leave it running

create custom – firmware with snowbreeze
start iREB-r4 and put ur device in DFU mode (black screen)

once done open itunes and shift + restore and select the custom firmware

now things should go without a problem. I just downgraded using this technique from 5.1 to 4.2.1

Also I did downgrade to 4.3 but had signal issues so try 4.2.1

I did try to downgrade from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 many times on iphone 4 and found out that it isn’t working. Every time it end up in recovery mode. It can’t be pulled out from that stage on iphone4.

Sorry you need to forget to downgrade without SHSH blobs, i would suggest you to stick to IOS5 and make sure u dont update or mess with it coz i did that and now when i try to restore to Original IOS 5 it wont let me and i had to update to IOS 5.0.1 >.>

The same happened to me. What i did to fix it was right click on hosts file, click properties, and go to the security tab. Once there, look for your user and it should be limited access. Click the edit button and there you should be able to change and edit the file

Don’t downgrade before you read this!! After much research I downgraded from 5.01 to 4.21 very successfully. The problem you will find is trying to restore from backup afterwards. iTunes cannot restore your contacts, apps texts and everything else with a backup from 5.01. I had to restore with iTunes back to 5.01. I think I will now have to do the tethered jailbreak or wait for the untethered (if this ever happens)!!

If you have no blobs you cannot downgrade. There is NO WAY!! Sorry :-/

the error is because you are in the recovery mode and not in the dfu mode i recomend you to put it in the pwned dfu mode with redsnow/extras/pwned dfu/then turn it off/and follow the instruccions

(windows) To save the hosts file drag it to your desktop, edit the file, then drag it back. you want to move the file not copy it! make sure it has no file extension as sometimes the text editor will add a .txt extension. if you click save not save as you should be okay. you can verify this by double clicking the file, if it opens in a text editor then it has the .txt extension if it opens the “open with” window then there is no file extension and you are good to go

Okay people. Here’s the clarification on what it means when you need saved SHSH to downgrade. BEFORE YOU UPGRADED to 5.0 or 5.0.1 you must backup and save your SHSH so you could downgrade later if you needed to. You cannot use someone else’s SHSH as each one is unique to the iphone/ipod/ipad.

For example, if you were on iOS 4.3.5, before you upgrade to the newer version, if you needed to go back to 4.3.5, you must backup the SHSH first, then upgrade. If you did not or forgotten too, then you DO NOT HAVE A SAVED SHSH. This means this article does not apply to you. This file is a unique signed identifier that let you restore your device back to an older copy.

It is currently impossible to downgrade without it.

So I would think most people who are new to this, would likely NOT have saved their SHSH prior to upgrading ( I am one of them ); but now you know better, so before you upgrade again, research and do your save so you don’t run into this issue again.

Also according to my research there is a grace period of time Apple will sign older IPSWs for restores, so you could downgrade without saved SHSH if you do it fast enough before they stop signing. Unfortunately Apple stopped signing 4.3.5 back in October 2011.

That means moving forward, those like me will have to wait for an unlock for baseband 4.11.08; and if we want to upgrade again this time save your SHSH one each version PRIOR to the upgrade; so you can go back to that version, OR create customer IPSW so when you upgrade it doesn’t touch your baseband.

Lesson learn, won’t get burn again.

Recovery mode uses iBoot during restoring or upgrading your iPhone.
DFU mode bypasses the iBoot so you can downgrade the current FW because there is no iBoot agent during the DFU mode.

iBoot is the bootloader on iPhone OS devices. iBoot acts on restore while iPhone is in Recovery Mode, iBoot makes sure that you are flashing a firmware version greater than or equal to a current one. If you are not, iBoot will not allow the restore to proceed. Because of this, firmware downgrading must be done in DFU mode. This means;

If you need to restore your iPhone to current version simply put the iPhone in recovery mode and iTunes takes care of the rest. But,

If you need to downgrade your current firmware to lower one you need to put your iPhone in DFU mode. For example you can’t downgrade Firmware 3.0 to Firmware 2.2.1 without entering in to DFU Mode.

Recovery Mode: Recovery Mode is a state of iBoot that is used during standard upgrades and restores. As iBoot is active, it does not allow you to downgrade your device’s software. Also, unless it is ‘pwned,’ it will not allow custom firmware to be flashed.

DFU Mode: DFU Mode is a special mode where the device can still interface with iTunes, yet it does not load the iBoot. The screen will appear totally black in DFU mode, so you can’t guess whether the device is in DFU or powered down from simply looking at the screen. Because iBoot and the OS are not loaded this exploit makes us able to downgrade your iPhone firmware or upgrade with a custom firmware created by Pwnage tool.

How to put your iPhone in recovery mode:
1. Turn the device completely off and disconnect it from cable/dock.
2. Hold down the home button.
3. While holding down the home button connect to a computer with a cable (easiest) or dock.
4. Keep holding down the home button until you see a connect-to-itunes screen you are now in recovery mode.

To escape Recovery Mode and power the phone off simply hold down power and home buttons for ten seconds.

How to put your iPhone in DFU mode:
1. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
2. Turn iPhone off.
3. Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
4. Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
5. A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
6. If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.

Saving your SHSH blobs is not necessarily a complicated process, but with many new Jailbreakers joining the Jailbreaking Community everyday I thought it may be a good idea to write a generalized guide for saving your SHSH blobs with TinyUmbrella (I plan on doing a tutorial for iFath in the near future as well). So, without further hesitation let’s get into a couple frequently asked questions and then we will get right down to business.

Why Should I Save My SHSH Blobs?

Saving your SHSH blobs allows you to restore your iDevice to a lower firmware versions you are currently running. Meaning if you saved your SHSH blobs for iOS 4.3.3, but accidentally update to the iOS 4.3.4 firmware. You could easily downgrade back to the iOS 4.3.3 firmware. Where if you did not save your SHSH blobs on the iOS 4.3.3 firmware you could not of downgraded back from the iOS 4.3.4 firmware to the iOS 4.3.3 firmware. Having the ability to downgrade your iDevice’s firmware is useful for a number of reasons the most important reason being if you accidentally upgrade to a firmware version that cannot be Jailbroken.

What are SHSH Blobs and What Do They Stand For?

SHSH stands for Signature HaSH and it is a 128-byte RSA signature (a random string of numbers and letters), used in this case by Apple as a technique to verify if your iDevice can be restored or updated. Each individual signature created is termed a SHSH blob, or blob for short. Meaning, in not so technical terms, SHSH blobs are the magic key to restoring or updating your iDevice. You see, each time you try and restore or update your iDevice SHSH blobs are compared to one-another to verify that you are not trying to downgrade your iDevice’s firmware. Thus, saving your SHSH blobs is the only way to trick this security system put in place by Apple (Thanks iPadForums).

Now that you know a little bit more about SHSH blobs we will get right down into learning how to save your SHSH blobs.

Learn How To Save Your SHSH Blobs With TinyUmbrella

Step 1) – The first thing you will need to do is download TinyUmbrella to your computer. You can do so by clicking here (scroll down to TinyUmbrella section and download the version that is bold).

Step 2) – Once you download TinyUmbrella to your computer launch it and you should be presented with the interface show below.

Step 3) – The next thing you will need to do is plug your iDevice into your computer (if you have not already). Upon doing so TinyUmbrella will detect it in the connected devices tab.

Click on your iDevice in the connected devices tab now.

Step 4) – Once you click on your iDevice you will need to simply click the Save SHSH button in the top right hand corner of the screen and TinyUmbrella will begin saving your available SHSH blob. When the process is complete you should notice a list of saved SHSH blobs.

If all went well, you have now saved your SHSH blobs for the firmware version you are currently running.

Troubleshooting

If you did not get success with saving your SHSH blobs you may need to double check that Apple is still signing your firmware version. You can double check this at the developer of TinyUmbrellas website. When you are sure your firmware version is still being signed by Apple you may need to do the following:

When you Uncheck Request SHSH From Cydia go back to step 1 and try saving your SHSH blobs again.

Learning How To Downgrade Your iDevice With TinyUmbrella

Step 1) – When you have your SHSH blobs saved, and actually want to make use of them to downgrade your iDevice to a lower firmware version. You will need to once again launch TinyUmbrella, plug in your iDevice into your computer and click the Start TSS Server button.

Step 2) – Once the TSS Server has been enabled you will need to launch iTunes. With iTunes up and running click on your iDevice and then hold down the Shift key (Windows) or Alt key (Mac OS X) and click Restore button. Upon doing so a new dialog window will appear where you will need to select the firmware file you wish to restore to. Do this now, and your iDevice will begin being restored.

Step 3) – Once your iDevice has finished restoring you should encounter error 1015. When you receive this error all you will need to do is launch TinyUmbrella and click the Exit Recovery Mode button. Upon doing this your iDevice should reboot and function as normal. Congratulations, you have now downgraded your iDevice.

Troubleshooting

Restoring your iDevice can often times be a troublesome task full of errors. If you are experiencing errors what we suggest doing is restarting your computer, close all running applications besides TinyUmbrella and iTunes, and then plug your iDevice into a USB port you have not plugged it into before (or one that you usually don’t plug it into) and restart the restoration process. When you have tried the advice given above you may need to do the following:

Go into the Advanced Tab and uncheck the following:

When you Uncheck Set Hosts to Cydia go back to step 1 and try saving restoring your iDevice again.

on ios 4.3.5 there not untetthered jailbreak for iphone with models that letters at begin are MC if you got this sh!t of model u cant jailbreak on 4.3.5 now am back on 5.0.1 -.-…. DONT USE THIS TUTORIAL IS USLESS! [Except if u got 4.3.3 Shsh] If not is useless!

I don’t have shsh from 4.3.3 in my cydia, but a friend of mine has, e is using an ipad just like me, if I go to is computer, can i downgrade my ipad from there? currently on ios 5.0.1 untethered, and inumerous safari craxes =/

u cant use another shsh Explain: shsh Must be of that divice you have coz all shsh of all divices are unique if u use another 1 from example : an ipad for your iphone u will make it briked! maybe with no chance to rollback!

if u take a shsh from another devices u can brake you phone maybe not working more x.x

Very informative anyone who read’s it should be able to follow it,There’s only 2 thing’s you might have mentioned,,1.) If your downgrading to get to a lower(unlockable BaseBand) It’s not going to happen,your baseband will stay the same as when you started.2)Even when you have the SHSH’s saved you might not be able to get out of the boot loop and will have to restore to current ios.I have in the past tried to downgrade(with saved SHSH’s) and have NEVER been able to get out the the boot loop or downgrade.I have read where people said “I did it” and I have asked them HOW and have never gotten a response OR I get follow this guide.I am not saying that it’s impossible, But once I spent a week trying to downgrade a iphone 3G from 4.2.1 to 4.1 I spent hours day’s wrote down every change I made and never made it happen,and if you want to downgrade baseband dont bother baseband’s go up never down.
I did learn alot of tricks to do with .ipsw file’s,and learned I could not downgrade ios.

I had a similar problem and i found out it is all fixed if you specify your ipsw in extra before jailbreaking

Hi . I have a 3gs with ios 4.0.1 . I used jailbreakme to jailbreak my phone . It worked with any sim card , and I am using at&t prepaid now . !

Now I just need to update to ios ver 4.3.3 only , so I can install some app. Viewfinder . ! How can i do it as is !
