SemiTether 0.9.1 Released To Bring Some Great Improvements & Bug Fixes

Last week we’ve broke the news about the perfect solution for iOS 5 tethered jailbreak, a semi-tethered jailbreak developed by BigBoss which allows you to reboot your device while you’re away from your PC without full functionality. The semi-tethered jailbreak tool now updated to bring some great improvements & bug fixes.

SemiTether 0.9.1

Last week’s SemiTether jailbreak utility from Cydia, yes, brings semi-tethered jailbreak but it was very limited. It didn’t allow you to open Safari or the Mail.app once you do the reboot. It also made some problems, even to me, when adding some jailbreak widgets to iOS 5 notification center.

BigBoss today released a new version of iOS 5 semi-tethered jailbreak known as SemiTether 0.9.1 which finally now supports Safari working on non-tethered jailbreak mode. After updating, you can open Safari when your device is rebooted.

However, the update brings more and more fixes. Full changelog:

  • Much more stable with new mobile substrate
  • Can patch safari so it works in the non-jailbreak reboot mode
  • App to monitor the status of your semitether and reapply. Check after cydia installs.

The SemiTether 0.9.1 now protects your iOS 5 notification center widgets and gives you the option to patch mobile safari so that it will work on the non-jailbreak reboot mode. Moreover, BigBoss is currently looking to fix the Mail.app problem too.

In case you haven’t installed SemiTether on your iOS 5 device yet, I recommend you do now. It’s a life saver in some situations. You should follow our previous guide posted here to install SemiTether 0.9.1 directly on your iOS device.

    download the twik respring from bigboss control via activator to volume + or both and after you stuck on respring circle push the + volume and it will get out from the stuck thing and doing agood respring…

    Try doing a force reboot then . Boot tether from red snow if that doesn’t work your sol . Just restore and wait for the untethered release. Seems to be the only option

    Why do people ask for unlocks? Is it because they can’t pay to get it unlocked? I don’t get it. Mine is unlocked. I bought it that way……

    Also.. If I took ur post the wrong way.. There are many regions where the carriers lock the phones up for their network only.. Not sure where you are but most phones are locked.

    all this “jailbreak” does is allow you to use your phone to make calls and text until you can re-jailbreak on your computer. installous will work fine after that

    lol ok so its not a problem just a glitch. I turned my phone off and then back on and the semi tether kicked in. couldn’t use safari (didn’t turn that on) and all my cydia apps were white. rejailbroke with redsnow and all my cydia apps work but are still white….whatever lol but just putting it out there.

    The Contacts and Phone doesn’t work….. it can’t open in semi thethered and it normal mode as well

    This does not work with Gevey Unlock. After I booth (untethered), I’ll get the Accept screen, do the 112 thing, then turn on Airplane Mode till I get the No Sim message, then turn off Airplane mode and get the Invalid Sim message, but the phone will keep searching and not find a carrier

    Once you boot tethered, you can unlock normally.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the jailbreak from my phone so I don’t need to boot tethered? I don’t really need the phone to be jailbroken any more since it is already activated and I have Facetime/iMessage working properly (the only reasons I needed to jailbreak the phone)

    It does work and its not shit. You may have to restore and rejailbreak but who cares. It’s improvement. Restore, jailbreak. (i Use Sn0wbreeze, I like it better)after boot tethered and can open Cydia,then install”Mobile Substrate” only. nothing else. When done dont tap ‘reboot device” or “restart springboard” Plug it in to PC/MAC, power it off then prepare to boot tethered. This helps to make the whole jailbreak more stable.

    Yes it does. Just make sure to install Installous after SemiTether. When installing installous, go to the Hackulo source in manage tab. Tap on “AppSync 5.0+” Tap install then tap “Continue Queing” Then go back and tap on Installous, then confirm install. Why do this you ask? Simply becuase for some reason I dont know why, when u install installous it automatically grabs the “AppSyn 5.0+” from one of your cracked repos instead of from the Hackulo repo. I dont know why, but this causes problems. To avoid it, Install “SemiTether” first, Then find “AppSync 5.0+” from hackulo repo (and make sure it is the “hackulo.us” repo!), tap install, then “continue queing”, then tap install on installous from hackulo repo, then confirm, This way it installs the rite AppSync instead of one from one of your cracked repos. There ya have , SemiTether and Installous working flawlessly on your iPhone/iPod Touch.

    I had iOS 5 in a iPhone 4. Never jailbrake before. My intention was also to unlock my carrier (Vodafone Spain) and be able to use a T-Mobile Prepaid sim card in US. I get a message as unvalid sim. I have now a SemiTether Jailbreak 0.9.1 Release. Please help me

    All you need to do it put the iphone in DFU mode plugin to the computer open up itunes….itunes will says iphone found in recovery mode it need to be restore
    info:on how to put it on dfu mode … first turn it off… hold down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds after that release the power button contunue holding the home button for 15 seconds , once you hear the sound from the computer …….you are ready to restore your iphone … Good luck budy

    I also searched “semitether” and “semi tether” and indeed does not show up in the Cydia search tool. Help>?

    Ok I’m just wondering in one post it said not to add anything to the notification bar like sbsetting dose this mean I can install SBsettings at all or dose it mean I just can’t add it to the notifications bar?

    Actually, when I reboot from my mac with Redsn0w safari and mail work, but if I shut my iPhone off and restart it like normal, they stop working lol. Weird.

    Do not install 0.9.1 (from memory) after installing with redsnow.
    I was semi-tethered booting succesfully until I then installed this update to try to get safari working. Now it never wants to boot up untethered at all.
    It will still boot up tethered, but even after uninstalling the 0.9.1 semi-tethered it will not boot up at all untethered..

    I was using a 3GS that came factory installed with 4.0.2 and BB 05.13.04 and I used redsn0w 0.9.10b6 to create NO_BB_iPhone2,1_5.1_9B176_Restore.
    It was working great as semi-tethered before installing the SemiTether 0.9.1
