On the launch date, the iPhone Dev Team could be able to jailbreak the new iPad running iOS 5.1 and get Cydia installed on it. That was very fast since the new iPad hasn’t been on sale ever for 12 hours yet.
MuscleNerd, the brain member of the iPhone Dev Team, has recently on his Twitter account screenshots showing Cydia running on iPad 3 on iOS 5.1. You probably can’t see it, but the software labels in the screenshot above is an iPad 3,3, running iOS 5.1.
It’s still unknown whether this jailbreak is tethered or untethered. Moreover, the well-known iPhone hacker i0n1c could jailbreak his iPad 2 on iOS 5.1 only yesterday.
This is good news for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners. By running a jailbreak on iPad 3, this means it will work on the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 too.
MuscleNerd notes out that this is the first step in the process of releasing a jailbreak to the public. Don’t get your hopes up, this jailbreak needs a lot of development before a public release.
