MuscleNerd: You Won’t Be Able To Save iOS 5 SHSH Blobs

3 months ago when iOS 5 was in beta, the iPhone Dev Team made a post telling iOS users that iOS 5 prevents saving SHSH blobs. The news was right; MuscleNerd has officially announced that you won’t be able to save iOS 5 SHSH blobs anymore but good chances are always there!

iOS5 uses “nonces”, so trying to stitch/replay iOS5 blobs will fail (for now anyway)

On Twitter, MuscleNerd said that saving iOS 5 SHSH blobs will fail at least for now. In a reply to a user, MuscleNerd said that they’ll be able to defeat this problem in the future (and noted that Limera1n exploit makes chances better too).

MuscleNerd: right, that’s their goal. Defeating it will require more cat & mouse (limera1n enables many hacks though)

This means that, for example, when iOS 5.1 is released sometime, you won’t be able to downgrade back to iOS 5. So in case of future software update, you’ll lose your jailbreak on update and you won’t be able to downgrade.

So what now? Well, I advise everyone to keep away from the update button in iTunes and don’t get future updates until a jailbreak is out.. unless you don’t need it.

    i did a foolish thing -
    updated my iphone4 with ios5 from itunes. 
    i had a gevey sim, but now, as we know, its useless

    So how do you think – will there ever be a chance to use my iphone properly again? 
    or its basically just a ipod forever?

    It should be able to downgrade from 5.0 to 4.3.3 if you saved the blobs?!

    I’m on ios 5 with gevey and it still works :) you just need to use sn0wbreeze so you dont update your baseband :)

    Afaik, Apple is still signing 4.3.5. You can downgrade then, including the baseband.

    i have iphone 4 unlocked with gevey sim. If i updated to iOS.5, can i still go back to 4.3.5 ??
    and once i customized update to iOS.5, will iTunes let me restore all my apps and stuff from my previous version 4.3.5 ??

    first of all gevey will only work on iOS 5 if you preserve your baseband using snowbreeze/redsnow.. secondly all your apps are backed up before you update so that shouldnt be a problem..
