I update my 3Gs baseband by sn0wbreeze and was unlocked before but as I need to use Chinese input so I try to use redsn0w again. However when I try to upgrade by redsn0w custom IPSW and JB it I found my Cydia keep crashing!!! Cydia opened and try to load things by itself and once it finish the “Reloading” then it crash back to springboard. I need HELP!

I just used the new Redsn0w last night to jailbreak my phone. I have a 3Gs IOS 5.0.1 with baseband 05.16.05. I’ve never been interested in the jailbreak as much as the unlock. I know you have to jailbreak to unlock however. All I want is to use the iPhone with a T-Mobile Sim Card. I’ve been waiting since 11-11-11 to use it. Of course I had no idea how involved it was to jailbreak and unlock. I’ve become somewhat of a pro. : ) However, I have no idea about the baseband. There I am clueless. Anyone can give me info of what I might need to do to unlock my 3Gs? Thanks everyone!!

Head over to Settings, General then about on your phone, almost at the bottom you will see the “Modem Firmware” if your firmware is any of the above in the article, you can unlock with this. Hope this helps.

You didn’t preserve your baseband and now you are upgraded. No going back. Gevey Sim only or wait for 4.11.08 unlock. Sorry. I’m in the same boat and it sux!

And there are programmes that downgrade your firmware but they cannot downgrade your baseband.

Well you d’ont need to jailbreak it again,just keep to reinstall ultra snow or try to go on airplan mode on and off.

create a custom firmware using redsn0w and that will not update the baseband. it will still be a tethered jailbreak unless the 3gs is old bootrom!

I did it and, in theory, everything was fine. Nevertheless, after jailbreak it, it shows the apple logo first and after some time appears that small circle (the same as when you turn the phone off) and stops there. It’s been about 2 hours now, hehe.

Can anyone tell me when there going to come out for a unlock for the iPhone 4 5.0.1 BB 3.10.01?

After updating the software, it asks me to put a valid SIM card (I don’t have it).
So that, I tried to jailbreak it anyway.

Everything looks fine, but when the process finish it doesn’t start again. It appears Apple logo and, some time later, the loading circle you can see when you turn the phone off. It stops with this loading and nothing else happens. I’ve tried twice the process and the result is the same.

Any clue? Some idea about how I can activate the iPhone without the SIM card before jailbreak it? (the original SIM card is from Spain and I’m in Brazil. It’d be quite hard to find it here).

If there’s no way to make it work, I’d like to know how I can restore it with the backup I’ve created before without upgrade my baseband. (if you could indicate me some article about it I’d appreciate…)

Patrick, you are going to need to check the bb version. If it is not listed on the above article, it is not yet supported. I have the same problem, my baseband is not yet supported, I jb and unlock it, but it still does not recognize any other sim card.
You can find the version under: settings/general/about/modem firmware

It looks everything was fine, but now I have the first screen where it asks for a valid SIM card to activate the phone (after that, I’ll be able to install ultrasn0w and unlock my iPhone).

first off, thanks guys for the excellent work!

I just got T-MOBILE WORKING on my 3gs (baseband 6.15.00): I followed the instructions above and added a few things from some other past instructions that I’m positive made the difference (I had similar issues to comments below when I tried unlocking last night I.E. searching for network forever, or no service/carrier).

1. went through the process of rebooting 5.0.1 through Itunes
2.reflashed the baseband (anew) in Redsn0w to 6.15.00
3. disabled 3g and Cellular data in Network settings BEFORE DOWNLOADING ultrasn0w.

and then did everything as mentioned in the instructions above. I still gotta see if my data plan is working but I’m happy to simply have my iphone to make calls again!

happened the same to me. I finally got it to work by following the steps.
Open redsn0w 9.9b9 choose your ipsw and go to jailbreak uncheck all except deactivate. It will do it things and then stop at error. What I did was just boot tethered again, once your phone turn on then go to cydia and search for ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and install it again. I hope it will work for you, if it doesn’t try to reset your network in the phone and try the steps again.

You can update to the 06.15.00 baseband which is supported

Yup, after 3 weeks of frustration, it dawned on me, let me try installing the iPad baseband again, and yup it worked.

mine worked without turning off the data and 3G, installing iPad baseband again did the trick.

4.10.01 is unlockable by using Gevey SIM. They are like $5 on amazon.

you can downgrade to 4.1.0 but i think your baseband wont change. Are you using an Iphone 4 or 3gs? If you are using iphone 3gs you could jailbreak and install ipad baseband using redsn0w and then install ultrasn0w via cydia.

I actually did a different way which is easier, when u go on cydia go to sections and scroll down to utilities then scroll to the letter u and ultrasn0w is right there hope this helps

Whoa…..restored through itunes to 5.0.1….after jailbreaked with ipod baseband upgrade…..after that installed ultrasnow utility…..rebooted..and done………..now I have fully unlocked 3GS 5.0.1 untheatered….what a site this is Excellent…….

I tried unlocking my 3Gs new bootrom bb 6.15.00 on ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and redsn0w 0.9.9b9 and then tried with 0.9.9b9d but it did not work the result is: ‘no service’ each time. I tried several times starting with iTunes restore ios 5.0.1, but it did not work. So what did I do? I jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.9b7 and unlocked with Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 as the first steps Then I jailbreak with 0.9.9b9 and unlocked with ultrasn0w 1.2.5. I repeated this procedure three times and it worked three times!
SO HERE IS HOW:

Just Try to instal ipad baseband again, you can search that from google…..and if it doesn’t effect try to remove Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and reboot with redsn0w or ibooty, and then instal ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and reboot it again and then wait for a moment like 1hour

You must Jailbreak your phone by using ‘install Cydia’ and ‘install ipad baseband’ options and then try to unlcok using ultrasnow 1.2.5.

Restart your iphone and it’s done. Network is back and working!! Hope this helps…

I think you need to check and update your baseband (Modem Firmware). Would suggest to update your baseband to 06.15.xx. I jailbroke my iphone 3gs with IOS 4.1 and baseband 06.15.00. and then unlocked it..it works great.

Okay, so my issue is, I can jailbreak, and download cydia, but in your screenshot, you show the iphone connected to the internet…that’s the issue! I”m jailbreaking and unlocking so that I CAN get service. Right now when I go to cydia, it says no service. Advice that explains how to get around this would be great!

u could always go around free wifi .. mcdonalds and timhortans offer free wifi go there and do what u need and bam u can get service or wtever u need

since its taking a long time searching for signal.. go to settings and turn on airplane mode and reboot ur phone while in airplane mode then when phone starts up take off airplane mode and c if that works … hope that helps

I’m in the same boat. I show “No Service” on the status bar. Carrier is not showing up nor the SIM card is being recognized. Under the Phone options in Settings, I still see AT&T services being shown. It looks like some kind of flushing needs to be done to get rid of the original carrier settings and make the phone understand any other SIM is also valid. I would love to see some help on this. Use redsn0w 0.9.10b3 to upgrade your baseband to 6.15.00 and then unlock using Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 which you can get under Cydia app on your phone.

Caveat: You will find many including me having trouble getting the new SIM to work on unlocked phone unless you update the iOS to custom iOS built by redsnow. Even after unlock the phone doesn’t seem to get signal from any other carrier.

Hi guys, for anyone who got problem with 3gs 5.0.1 with ipad baseband 06.15.00 still Searching…… and No service you can try this, first remove Ultra Snow 1.2.5 and reboot, Use Red snow 0.9.10b3 to JB your phone again, CHOSE Install Cydia and INSTALL IPAD BASEBAND (note this way did not work with 3gs after week 35 of 2011), and do this like usual, when done, reboot your device, install Ultra Snow 1.2.5 and reboot, and you made it. Good luck.

NOTE: to avoid getting error when JB with Reds now 0.9.10b3, you should first download Stock FW 5.0.1, and in Red snow 0.9.10b3 select Extras > Select IPSW and choose the 5.0.1 stock firmware yo have just downloaded.

so you have the Gevey ,you ll not have any problem for unlocking if you just preserve your baseband for 5.0.1 as 4.10.1, actullay mine is exactly as yours and i m still not sure if Gevey really works or not !!

My 3gs (week 44 of this year) is running on 05.16.05, its JB but need to unlock, i don’t want to upgrade to 6.15.05 as its too risky! Any ideas of when i’ll be able to unlock using Ultrasn0w?? thanks

I did proceed it anyway though my phone is quite old, and it works on unlocking. You can give it a try, but make sure that you know what you are doing. Once you change to iPad baseband, you can’t change it back. Good luck!

Give me your email, and tell me your situation, so I can help. Basically what i did:
1. Use redsn0w0.9.9b7 to enter pwn DFU
2. Install custom IPSW on iTunes
3. jailbreak your iPhone using redsn0w (newest version) WITH “install iPad baseband” checked.
4. install ultrasn0w 1.2.5 on Cydia.
5. Reboot. Done!
Before doing those, my iphone 3gs was 06.15.00 bb. If you install iPad baseband, you can’t change it back. So make sure you know what you are doing.

I have tried this on 2 different 3gs. The first on worked perfectly (and still is). The second one worked for two days and then started saying Invalid sim. I did a restore and tried to jailbreak and unlock again, but it constantly said searching.

On putting the correct sim in the 3gs it would not activate, so I tried several other sims and it wouldn’t recognise any of them. Did a bit of Googling and this has happened to other 3gs users

Took it to Apple to see if they could activate it for me, but no luck there either. One broken iphone.

I’m starting to think my iphone 3gs ios 5.0.1 baseband 05.16.05 will never be more than an ipod. Which I already have. I’m not that savvy to update to the 6.15.00 baseband and there seems to be too many complications with it amnyway. Never thought it would be that difficult to unlock. I could care less about the jailbreak, it’s the unlock that I want. Just to be able to use the iphone (was a gift from someone who got the new iphone 4s) as a phone is all I ever wanted. I’ve just about given up hope!

This happened on one of the iPhone 3GS’s I was working on. I managed to get it working by doing a tethered boot through Redsn0w. If you’re still having issues, re-flash the “no_bb” iOS 5.0.1 and start again.

There is still no unlock for 4.11.08. There are some rumors about a sim solution like gevy sim (vold miracle), but no release date. Best solution right now is to sell it and buy another that’s already unlocked.

Ive tried to upgrade my baseband to 6.15.00 through REdsn0w on my 3gs ios 5.0.1 with bb 5.16.05, It would not work and kept hitting error message (60000 ms) any suggestions to get past this?? I had to reboot several times as I lost Cydia and my itunes library, its frustrating as i need to use it as a phone not just an ipod touch!!! What I did with my 3GS that was upgraded from 5.0 tethered (and worked unlocked) to 5.0.1 untethered (and didn’t unlock) was re-flash my already 06.15.00 baseband. I just used redsn0w 0.9.10b3, clicked ‘Jailbreak’, entered DFU mode, clicked ‘Install Cydia’ and ‘Install iPad baseband’ (my model number is 88131), and waited. I reinstalled ultrasn0w using Cydia, and after a UNTETHERED restart, all my text messages came rolling in ^.^

I’m having the same problem, let me know if you find a fix!

I applaud the guys working on the jailbreaks and unlocks. But I’ve been waiting and waiting for an unlock and never thought it would take so long. I’ve just about given up as you can read in my last message. Too complicated, too many bugs and would have to brick it so it’s useless. Can’t afford an iphone or would buy one online already unlocked. Could care less about the jailbreak, just want to use it with T-Mobile Sim. The light is fading at the end of the tunnel…lol

Quick question if anyone can answer. I still have the tethered jailbreak they came out with during Christmas. Haven’t done the untethered yet and may not. I noticed last night when I plugged my iphone to sync with iTunes, said it wasn’t a valid sim (it’s not) so I couldn’t sync. Is this because I JB it and installed Cydia? I had no problem prior to the JB. Sorry, only savvy with electronic devices to a degree. I’d appreciate the info from you Tekkies! Happy New Year Everyone! Hi, I’ve figured out how to bypass the unlocking 3gs problem through ultrasn0w 1.2.5, here’s the steps u need to follow – ( procedure will help overcome no service and searching issues)
1st- Update firmware to 5.0.1 from  iclarified to get a custom file
2nd- u install redsnow 0.9.10b3,
3rd- when u open up redsnow it will give u 2 options- 1- jail break and install Cydia and the other option is extras, click on extras and press next.
4th-  (select ispw) then press next and it will take u to next screen where u will need to find and select the custom FirmWire file 5.0.1 is on yourlaptop/desktop.
6th- once the firmwire is selected (double click it), all u do then is press back to a screen where it will give u an option to install Cydia and install iPad baseband, select and tick both boxes, once u have pressed next it is business as usual to jail break etc.
Once jail break is done, u should have a phone which is automatically unlocked now, if it isn’t just install ultrasnow 1.2.5 in cydia and reboot fone and when ur phone is back on it will be unlocked !

ok i followed all the simple instructions. then rebooted the phone after unlocking it with ultrasn0w. it says reboot plus tethered boot? whats that mean? i still have no unlocked phone, but the phone is jailbroken. im runnin 5.01 on a 3gs with 6.15 base band. any ideas what i am doing wrong? please help

If you haven’t allready done it, do not do it untill there’s a proper fix coming up. Currently updating the baseband will lock the phone (causing: Searching… bug) and as I’ve worked on it for a week now, there seems to be no way of fixing it thus far. If you do update your baseband, and happen to get it working by some miracle do tell how you managed that

OK… After several attempts I made it. My 3GS is now running 5.0.1 without a hitch, bit slow at times. The only thing I did that was different was not remove the sim at any point or time during the process. Thats it…

so these are my details, i’ve been trying this for two days. The phone recognizes the carrier but cannot find signal, after searching for a while it just says “no service”. I’ve looked everywhere but few people seem to match my case and all the solutions are for old bootrom iphones. I read somewhere that re-flashing my bb will destroy the phone permanently with the new bootrom so I have not tried that. If that has worked for anyone (with a new bootrom) please let me know. Other details:

Jailbroken with: redsn0w 0.9.10b3 (latest version)

used Custom ipsw to restore (with iTunes) and stock ipsw to jailbreak (custom ipsw was not accepted by redsn0w)

I have the same phone, firmware and baseband. You CANNOT unlock baseband 05.16.00. Only the Basebands metioned on ultrasn0w. You have to “flash” it to ipad baseband 06.15.00. I don’t know how to do this. Would have to get info from google or this forum. I’m afraid of bricking or rendering my phone as useless if I do this. Hopefully someone on this forum can help you out.

i had no luck when trying to choose custom ipsw. everytime i tried to jb, it’d freeze on the apple logo. which i could NOT get away from without having to do a complete reset. i finally just skipped that step of changing ur ipsw, and did it from there. after that, is when i had the no service issue. i have a 3gs, ios 5.0.1, baseband 6.15.00, and the newer bootrom. i switched to flightmode a few million times, kept respringing winterboard, and i also help down the power button, AND the home button at the same time ONLY until the apple logo reappears, then release. otherwise you’ll put yourself in recovery mode. i’m not sure which of these steps actually fixed my phone, but it did, and it’s never been better.

For me to try to fix the “searching” “no service” problem, I just use snowbreeze 2.8b11 to create custom IPSW with ipad baseband, risk it. and it works. Who care about GPS if you can’t use the phone to call. Hurray!!!

Ok, here I go again. I used redsn0w 0.9.10b3 a few days ago. Jailbroke phone and installed Cydia with no problems. I was afraid to install ipad baseband. Now I’m desperate enough to do that. Problem is, I don’t know how to change my 05.16.05 baseband to 06.15.00. Can I jailbreak again over the recent jailbreak? I tried it a little while ago, but Redsn0w stopped responding while in DFU mode. The only option is “Jailbreak and install Cydia” The extras button is not helpful. Not sure how to proceed further. Any help from you Tekkies would be appreciated.

Initally failed as phone continuously searching for signal.
Decided to ‘flash’ to ipad baseband using redsn0w (only checked this box NOT the cydia box), I was reluctant to do this initially as lots of warnings regarding serial number of phone !
Worked straight away and phone is now making calls on the Three (UK) network.
PS I’ve never done anything like this before, if I can do it so can you !

you need to flash your Baseband as well while jail breaking your iPhone 3gs then you can unlock your iPhone 3gs by using ultrasn0w

Download iPhone2,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw and save to desktop, download and run redsn0w 9.10b3. Go to Extras, select “Select IPSW”, browse to your downloaded IPSW, it will load on to redsn0w as soon as you go back and select Jailbreak. Choose only “Install iPad baseband”… click next and follow the steps to put your phone in DFU mode. This should work… it worked for me. Once you have it updated, go to CYDIA and run Corona Unthetered so your 5.0.1 wont wipe out if phone is rebooted. Then run Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 and your phone should be unlocked. Check under settings >>general>>about if modem firmware is 06.15.00

Hi bcgtechie, I tried to do the instructions as you stated to me. After putting iphone in DFU mode, the dialogue box tells me it’s going to install ipad baseband. Then I get a message saying “The connected device doesn’t support untethered options”. Not sure what this means. I tried it 3x’s and still get the same message. Not sure if my 3gs bootroom is new or old. the S/N is 86001.(I assume this means that it was made week 1 of the year 2000 according to posts I’ve read.) It asks questions about the week it was made in the beginning of Redsn0w and I think I’ve answered them correctly. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Completely baffled now!

I have 3GS with old bootrom and bb 05.13.04. Used sowbeeze to jailbreak 5.0.1. After that I went to cydia to install ultrasnow. I added the source but ultrasnow after installation has an empty list.
Any idea what is going on. Also another phone on 3GS I opened cydia and it upgraded ultrasnow and the same thing happen ultrasnow source list in empty. Thanks…

Baseband 05.16.05 and willing to flash in the ipad baseband but as you said no option to do that is available in Redsnow.

@Dave Knapp, when you say a “clean restore” do you mean doing a restore from iTunes as if we had a sim free iPhone? Because i read that this shouldn’t be done since it would upgrade the baseband to one which is (if possible) even less unlockable than the 05.16.05 baseband

I have done the same with 9.10b3 under MAC and my iphone is jailbreaked but not sim unlocked.
I have also ios 5.01 and FW 4.11.08.

you need to use Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 in order to jail break. Use this version flash your iPhone Baseband and you phone will start working within few minutes. But remember while jail breaking don’t put the sim into your iPhone until you jail break and installed ultrasn0w.

You need to jail break your device using Redsn0w 9.10b1 and you can’t unlock your iPhone with 4.11.08 baseband. What you need to do is just wait.

What you need to do is just wait for GEVEY Sim until it comes. But let me tell you this that those are using customized ipsw who doesn’t want to update their Baseband in iPhone 4. So if you face this problem in iPhone 3gs. You need to update its baseband i am 100% sure it is working well by unlocking your iPhone 3gs using ultrasn0w.

If you want to use your iPhone 3gs with any carrier you can do it. Just follow these instruction and you are there.
1. update your iPhone 3gs using latest version of iTunes.
2. Jail break it with Redsn0w 9.10b1 and be care full to select both install cydia and install iPad Baseband while jail breaking your iPhone 3gs.
3. install ultrasn0w 1.2.5 version
4 Reboot your iPhone 3gs.

Note: You must remove your sim while updating, jail breaking and installing ultrasn0w into your iPhone 3gs. When you done with these there steps just insert your sim and there you go.

One more important point after installation of ultrasn0w and rebooting your iPhone just keep the WIFI turned off.

Was a bit worried cause I had installed cydia first then ultrasn0w and then noticed that my firmware was not supported/recommended. Was thinking of giving up but then your post saved me First time for me aswell!

Im not sure if you had the same issue as me but I also had 05.16.05 and changed mine to the 06.15.00 by just clicking on change to ipad bb using redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3 and not installing cydia again. I jailbroke mine first and then installed the ipad baseband following roberts post. Check Robert B’s post.

To all 3GS owners with a BB of 6.15.00, and with a week/SN not higher than 35, with a network problem please follow this simple steps.

1.back-up your device using itunes v10+.
2.download the correct firmware for your unit ( .ipsw) or just update using itunes.
3.download the latest redsnow.
4.just to be sure turn off your wifi, 3G, cell data, and cell data network, and also remove your sim card.
5.now run redsnow > extras > select IPSW. after select, click open then ok then yes then hit back.
6.click JAILBREAK follow the instructions then put a check on (install cydia) if not yet installed in your device. then also check (install ipad baseband) even if your already in the ipad BB . then click next.
7.open cydia > changes > refresh > search for ultrasn0w 1.2.5 > install > restart.
8.put back your simcard then call your loveones and say hi!

Hey, I have an IPhone 3GS. I preserved my baseband with sn0wbreeze at 6.15.00 and jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.9.10b3, now using 5.0.1 with the 6.15.00 baseband. Everything is working well on tmobile. The only problem I am having is that it still acts like a tethered jailbreak. if I shut it off it gets stuck in the apple logo. I go back on redsnow, justboot it, and then it gets stuck on the pineapple logo there. If I hold the home and power button down and restart it, it came back on, I just don’t understand why this is happening. I also downloaded Corona Untether through Cydia to see if that was it, but that didn’t help.

I read in another forum that if I try to change the BB to 06.15.00 from 05.16.05 someone said it will not only break the GPS but so many other things that the iphone would be nothing more than a paperweight. I’m so confused it’s crazy. Doesn’t look like anyone has any plans for an unlock for the dreaded 05.16.05 bb, I think I should just give up. Too many different stories going on.

I was running iOS 4.3.3 which was great, I decided to update to iOS 5.0.1. The problem I was experiencing after I updated to iOS 5.0.1 is I cannot activate my phone and my sim card cannot be detected properly (no service), but my sim works fine when I use it in a different phone.

I was stuck in this so I jailbroke the iphone and installled ultrasnow 1.2.5, and now it is activated but no sim card – no service all the time.

When I go back to an earlier ios (4.3.3 or 4.1) I get the same issue (no sim card – no service)

I don’t know what is wrong..

I did everything it said and everything worked but in the end my phone still says no service???

You need to remove your SIM while jail breaking your iPhone 3gs.
After jail break you must install ultrasn0w from cydia. Then turn off your WIFI and put your sim in your iPhone 3gs.

Remember: Use Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 to jail break your device.

I just bought the iphone-unlocker pro software. I have a Canadian Telus iphone 4 with ios 5.0.1, I jailbroke my phone then it would not let me add the unltrasn0w software in Cydia. Is it possible to unlock the phone yet with that software? or will it come out later or have I have just learnt a really valuable lesson and been scammed? anyones feedback would be very much appreciated….

Actually the 9 means 2009 so technically it should work….yet ultrasn0w 1.2.5 isn’t working after i install it in cydia. The problem might be because I accidentally upgraded to 5.0.1 officially through apple before I jailbroke the phone. I’m going to try installing a custom ipsw for 5.0.1, and then redsn0w and ultrasn0w again. Anyone else have any luck with unlocking after having installed the official 5.0.1 update from apple?

FOR IPHONE 3GS users:

To unlock your iDevice, in order to use it with other network, you will need some information. Jailbreaking and flashing your BB to 6.15.00 will not work 100%, you have to keep in mind that iPhone 3gs has two model of bootrom, what they call “New Bootrom” and “Old Bootrom”. For those who have the new bootrom and who accidentally flashed your BB to 6.15.00 using redsn0w, you have risked to brick your iDevice for life! which means that your wifi, imei, iccid, bluetooth will not work and possibility to brick your phone for life. For those who have the old bootrom, you are safe to flash your BB with 6.15.00 then use Ultrasn0w to unlock your iDevice, gotta make sure that your sim card is out while you perform the flash and jailbreak process, for it can cause the “No service” issue but you have to keep in mind that this process will cause your GPS to not function. With that being said, I recommend that you search enough information before performing the jailbreak and unlock. You might want to check Snowbreeze’s guide on how to preserve your baseband to jailbreak and unlock your device, personally I prefer Snowbreeze than redsn0w, just my personal opinion.

Some info to help you know if you have a new or old bootrom:

From the serial number (iPhone 3GS)
The third digit of the serial number identifies the year of manufacture (9=2009, 0=2010), while the fourth and the fifth indicate the week. The first “new bootrom” devices are from week 40 of 2009 (??940?????? or higher serials). Any iPhone made after Week 45 of 2009 (??945?????? and higher or ??0???????? serials) has the new bootrom.

You must have updated your iPhone to stock IPSW instead of Custom IPSW to preserve your baseband. Currently, 4.11.08 cannot be unlocked. Neither will Gevey unlock your iPhone. Just wait until the Devs or Applenberry give an update.

I used redsn0w jail broke perfectly fine then unlocked it but after reinstalling ultrasn0w and rejailbreaking it, am still getting the “searching”.. Please help as my backup phone is a old slider phone which is frustrating to use after using an iPhone for so long..

if you have a new boot room you don’t need to preserve baseband because every firmware will be converted to ios 6.15 so.. although preserve your bb using snowbreeze for backup. use redsnow 9.10.b4 to jailbreak as it has some new fixes and install ultrasnow after complete jailbreak . and reboot . it will work

reboot it for few time and use airplane mode on and off .. it may be helpful then..

It gets better. Restored the fone back to unjailbreak using itumes and now it wont even work with the original O2 sim…! itunes says there is no sim on the fone. excellent..!!!!!

If you are having the SEARCHING… issue and want it to go away, go back in to Cydia and click on Modify for Ultrasn0w and remove it. I am back at reading the SIM card.

Here is how I did it
All I did is restore to a fresh firmware
Then bypassed activation with redsn0w jailbreak
Then went into redsn0w and reflashed iPad baseband and installed ultrasn0w and

i mean the searching issue.
here we go:
1. download file iphone2,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.zip and save as an ipsw file (not zip).
2. using itunes restore the 3GS using this same ipsw file (need to hold down the shift ket whilst pressing the restore button).
3. download redsn0w_win_0.9.10b4 and unzip.
4. REMOVE SIM
5. run redsn0w and select EXTRAS then select IPSW and navigate to the same ipsw file. go back and select JAILBREAK. Then do Deactivate. follow instructions
6. After above has finished do the same as 5 but this time at JAILBREAK select load IPAD BaseBand. follow instructions.
7. After above has finished do same as 5 but this time at JAILBREAK select install CYDIA. follow instructions.
8. After above finished use CYDIA to install ULTRASN0W.
9. after above INSERT SIM

Did the above and I now have a 3GS working unlocked on THREE.UK (WAS LOCKED TO O2)

Hey, there is an easier way, restore the original through i tunes, then use red snow and choose the same ipsw but check jailbreak ipad baseband and deactivate, all at the same time, does the same trick.

Click onto jailbreak and it will there, along with jailbreak and deactivate

i clicked on jailbreak and the only options i see are: install cydia, install custom bundle, enable multitask gestures, and deactivate.

there is no option for loading the ipad baseband.

xx939 is an old bootrom, therefore flashing the iPad baseband 6.15.00 is safe to do so, keep in mind that you will lose your gps when flashing to iPad baseband. With that being said, you can install the Ultrasnow in cydia after the jailreaking and flashing process.

5.16.05 BB is not supported by Ultrasnow you have to flash you BB to 6.15.00 iPad baseband in order to unlock your iDevice, but be careful to first check if you have an old or new bootrom, because flashing iPad baseband on newer bootrom causes a lot of problem to your device and possibly brick your device.

You might probably have the old bootrom that is why everything worked fine for you, though it is unfortunate for the ones with the newer bootrom because flashing iPad baseband on newer bootrom will screw up the device.

Flashing iPad baseband to your iPhone 4 will not work, it is only design to work on older devices iPhone 3GS old bootrom and the iPhone 3G, now if you’re lucky to have baseband 01.59.00 on your device then you can unlock it with Ultrasn0w. Otherwise, there is no other way to unlock your phone, either you buy GEVEY sim to unlock your device or you go to your nearest apple store and ask them to unlock your device.

I have found that the ultrasn0w 1.2.5 version in Cydia only supports a limited number of basebands only on the iPhone 3gs & iPhone 4 but nothing on iPhone 4s.

XX947 is a new bootrom iPhone 3gs, now flashing iPad baseband can cause major problems to your device, I suggest not to risk flashing iPad baseband 6.15.00 unless you want to turn your device into a brick. It is better to wait for Ultrasn0w to release a new version that will support the unlock for other basebands, or you can always go to your nearest apple store and pay for the unlock.

It is most probably a scam, a lot of rumors speculating that unlocker softwares are just a scam, their own employees or developers writes their fake reviews on their software to get people’s attention and eventually take money from you. I personally do not trust on buying softwares online to unlock your device, these people write their program and scripts differently to unlock a device which can cause and give major damage to your device. It is preferably to use GEVEY sim as they are only the solution to unlock iPhone 4 4s and the new bootrom on 3GS.

Unfortunately Ultrasn0w only support the unlock for 01.59.00 baseband on iPhone 4, this method of flashing iPad baseband on your iPhone 4 in order to unlock will not work, it is design only to work on older devices. Use GEVEY sim or pay apple to unlock your device, since those are your two options.

make sure you download the latest beta version of redsn0w and re-download the ipsw for the iPhone 4s… and for the unlocker software part, I think you got scammed, rumors are speculating that unclocker softwares are just a scam, people write their own review about their software to attract people.

Looking at your serial number, I can say that you have the new bootrom, there is a big catch when you flash iPad baseband 6.15.00 on new bootrom, you lose bluetooth, imei, iccid, once you flashed 6.15.00 you cant put it back to its original baseband. Since you’ve already risked to potentially damage your device, restore you device to factory settings in itunes, and try downloading the latest beta version of redsn0w. From there go to “extras” tab, then load your ipsw, then select “deactivate”. Once that is done, try re-jailbreak your device and make sure your sim card is out. Install Ulrasn0w, reboot your device then insert sim card, your phone now should be able to detect signal.

Did you buy your iPhone from someone? because you should not have that BB on your device, you can try these steps, make sure you download the latest beta version of redsn0w, it fixes some of the newer bootrom flashed with iPad baseband, and I say “some”, however.

I had the same issue before on my old bootrom device, try restoring your device to factory settings. Download Sn0wbreeze latest version, create a custom hacktivate ipws meaning cydia will be included, then restore that custom ipws in iTunes, and install Ultrasn0w. This fixed my problem.

Some of the device with new bootrom built in week 40 to 45, the result varies. I have an old and new bootrom iPhone 3GS, I risked to flashed iPad baseband on the newer bootrom, knowing that this is the only way I can unlock my phone, it was succesful, but from time to time my phone drains battery like crazy, could not connect to wifi, bluetooth goes wild, screen freezes, to the point I stopped using my phone. But, a friend of mine asked me to jailbreak and unlock his new bootrom device, of course knowing the risk, now got himself an unlocked iPhone with no problem at all, unlike mine. I am just waiting for redsn0w to fix this issue on newer bootrom flashed with iPad BB. You have 50-50 chance that it’ll work, so its all up to you. Cheers.

As of now, there is no successful way to downgrade a baseband, to put it in other words: its impossible to downgrade a baseband. This method can only be done by replacing your baseband chip. Musclenerd of the chronic devteam announced a downgrade for baseband 6.15.00 to fix the lost gps fix on older devices. Two years later still no release for a downgrade, because by now he probably figured that this method of flashing baseband chip is impossible, it will therefore destroy the device. Test has been conducted and results were broken devices, He is now ignoring this issue and seems not to give a F**k anymore.

If your iPhone 4 is factory unlocked, then you do not need ultrasnow to unlock your device, it should work on any network and therefore you should be able to jailbreak your device.

Use Sn0wbreeze and it would solve your issue.

You will get charge, this process only provides you detail and step to unlock your device, not to free you from data charge on your sim network.

Refer to what R0ckSurf posted, how to use Sn0wbreeze, because I have used Sn0wbreeze as well and it solved the same issue as you are having.

I have an Iphone 3GS. Its modem firmware is 06.15.00. Serial is 88939. I’m currently running IOS 4.1. I would like to update to 5.0.1 but I’m not for sure if that if I do this that my phone will still work. My phone was bought off of Ebay last year by my fiance. It is unlocked/jailbroken but not factory. If I do this, will it still work on the new IOS. Also if save my baseband and the IOS I’m currently on, can I restore to that if this does not work for me?

Like i can hit install and confirm and something happens but the whole bottom of the screen is blank. All i can see on my screen when i do that is that part on that last screen shot that says “Search Details Install”. That’s all i can see, idk what to do from there.

Please help! I have an iPhone 3GS jailbroken and unlocked with a 6.15 ipad baseboard and an older bootrom. This morning I did a custom restore from 4.3.3 to 5.0.1, after some struggle I was able to get the phone to the setup page. Went through the instructions and added ultrasn0w 1.2.5 in cydia. I pressed “restart springboard” and my sim card was recognised. 3 minutes later my iPhone was dead. I am unable to reboot, tethered or otherwise and cannot enter DFU mode. The phone doesnt react to anything, doesn´t turn on or charge….no apple logo…nada.

My suggestion is try using other network’s micro sim card, if it gets a network signal then it is definitely a factory unlocked device.

1. download file iphone2,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.zip and save as an ipsw file (not zip).
2. using itunes restore the 3GS using this same ipsw file (need to hold down the shift ket whilst pressing the restore button).
3. download redsn0w_win_0.9.10b4 and unzip.
4. REMOVE SIM5. run redsn0w and select EXTRAS then select IPSW and navigate to the same ipsw file. go back and select JAILBREAK. Then do Deactivate. follow instructions
6. After above has finished do the same as
5 but this time at JAILBREAK select load IPAD BaseBand. follow instructions.
7. After above has finished do same as 5 but this time at JAILBREAK select install CYDIA. follow instructions.
8. After above finished
9 when phone starts deactivate data and 3g and location without simcard and deactivated this items at cydia look for ultrasn0w install and restart the iPhone, then insert simcard, my iPhone its new boot room and it worked perfect

I have T-Mobile and it says searching then finally goes to no service. Tried my son’s ATT sim card and it stayed on searching. I have turned 3g services off, data off, location services off. I read somewhere in this forum that phones manufactured after week 35 cannot be upgraded to iPad baseband because there is a risk of the phone getting bricked. How can I unlock my phone

My wife & I have old iphone 3G (no ‘s’) phones, still on ios 3.1.3, that have been jailbroken with Cidia. We use them with prepaid ‘gophone’ type plans, with no data plans, and do not use any non-itunes apps on the phones. My wife is having problems with many of her itunes apps failing to work. Will the new jailbreak for ios5 work on these old 3G phones? I only see ’3GS’ mentioned in the list of phones that can be jailbroken with the new fix. Or, do I even need to worry about it? Can I update to ios5 & still use the phones on my prepaid AT&T accounts?

What about baseband 03.10.01? Is there any way that I can get that unlocked besides the Gevey SIM?

yes it works, you see 3gs cause are the most common iPhones, bus with normal iphone3 works perfecty, and the other reason its that 3gs gives more difficulties about unlocking normal 3 its easier to jailbreak and doesn’t come lock for an specific company. 3gs sometimes came lock for at&t or another the 3 came generally unlocked for all companies.

I have unlock locked my iphone 3gs with 5.0.1 and BB 06.15.00. After installing Cydia and going to ultrasn0w I receive a message “could not activate cellular network?. Is there something else I need to do?

Have a similar problem to the above. iPhone 3GS [5.0.1 w BB 06.15.00], installed ultrasn0w 1.2.5, turned off phone, placed SIM in phone, rebooted and searched for a network –> no network found.

Does the reboot need to be tethered? any other suggestions?

Doing this for a friend, have jb many times before but this is the first unlock.

I tried exactly as you stated, been doing this for 2 months. It goes well while fetching baseband, then Redsn0w crashes saying it encountered a problem and needs to close. It never gets beyond that point. Any other suggestions why Redsn0w continually crashes? It’s so frustrating!

Any suggestions on how I can JB and unlock iphone 3gs. Going to attempt to update to ipad bb but Redsn0w insists on crashing. Very aggravating. Appreciate anyone who can help me with this issue.

do NOT update your baseband to ipad 2 or you will lose your gps capapbility and your phone signal will diminish as will your wi-fi signal…

Run redsn0w without the Install Cydia option checked first, just the iPad baseband update. Then you’ll need to restore and run redsn0w again with just Cydia checked. I had the same exact problem for days.

I have jailbreak my iPhone 3GS (Version 5.0.1 9A405 with BB 6.15.00) with redsn0w_win_0.9.10b2 and then tried to unlock the same using ultraSn0w from cydia. However, still it says No Service and unfortunately no GPS working. Please advise. Thanks.

Hiya there 3GS is sorted now, i got a Gevey sim for the Iphone 4 and it loads up and gives the msg (dial 112 etc) i do that but it never finds service. could it be a problem with the sim card or something else

Same here! same band. Does ask for the sim pincode when putting the phone back from Airplaine Mode. But it keeps on searching for network ending with no service

Got it working now! To fix the “NO SERVICE” error, ONLY check “Install iPad Baseband” NOT “Install Cydia” if you already have Cydia installed when using ultrasn0w.

Hey! Need your help! I was able to succesfully updated to IOS and had problems with NO SERVICE status on the phone signal. I followed the steps above and it was working perfectly fine until i used the data service. I subscribe to some sort of data plan or internet service. I rebooted my phone and now it wont start. I only see the apple logo and it wont past it.

Please help. I’m trying to troubleshoot this problem for more than 24 hours now. Did I do something wrong? Did I miss any step? What d I do now?

change your APN settings to the new carrier that you are using after the unlock
i.e. if you were on vodafone and are now on o2 you’ll need to put o2 apn settings instead of vodafone ones. they’re found under settings/network/cellulardatanetwork

hello Javier, im in a lil mess atm. i followed the steps on a mac, but i click on the bootrom option instead of old(87011N****P), now whenever i click on old bootrm it says device doesnt support untethered…… but every other thing seems to be fine, ive gotten passed the activation screen and im into the phone but in cydia nothing comes up in repo666.ultrasn0w, no ultrasnow nothing its just blank.

Ps i had a tehtered jailbreak on 5.0 and im currently running the ipad baseband.

hi I bought a iphone on ios 5.0.1 jailbreak and is unlocked on BB 01.59.00. its an untethered jailbreak and I dont have to boot tethered or anything of the sort. after reboot it works as normal. I know want to update this jailbreak using the latest JB software but am not sure which guide to follow because all the guides mention that using custom fw to preserve BB and unlock will only offer a tethered jailbreak. doesw anyone have any idea how to rejailbreak my iphone 4 and preserve my BB, with an untethered JB.

Unfortunately, Charlie, the iPhone 3G (a.k.a. 2nd-Generation) isn’t officially upgradeable to iOS 5. Only the 3GS (a.k.a. 3rd-Generation) & up have the option to be upgraded. I think the iPhone 3G only upgrades to 4.2.1, so iOS 5 is not an option (I know there are ways to force-install it, but I wouldn’t recommend that because it will run kinda slow. As a matter of fact, I feel iOS 5.0.1 runs slow on my 3GS.)

I have this iPhone 3GS (originally from AT&T USA) that already had iPad baseband 06.15.00 (and was already jailbroken, unblocked with ultrasn0w, and working perfectly fine on Claro’s network in Panama), so I just created a custom ipsw to preserve it and then upgraded it from 4.3 – but instead of upgrading to 5.0.1 it accidentally went all the way up to 5.1
I downgraded to 5.0.1 via alt+restore on iTunes and luckily it allowed me to do so. Now is where the problem comes: it is on 5.0.1 with an ultrasn0w-compatible baseband (06.15.00), but when I install ultrasn0w 1.2.5 i keep getting the same “no signal” message after it takes quite a while on “searching” mode. This happens even after several airplane mode>reboot attempts. It is the old one (week 35) and I’m running out of ideas. Any help? It would be greatly appreciated.

With the Iphone 3gs only, I’ve screwed up and updated to iOS 5.1. I had a lot of issues and it took a little while but it works now just fine as it did before the upgrade. All I did was once i had the phone back in iOS 5.0.1, I went back into redsn0w 0.9.10b6 and I re-jailbroke it and instead of just clicking the Cydia, I also clicked the Ipad BB. I let it cycle through the jailbreak and as soon as it came back on it had the signal that was lost. Just reflash with both of those during the jailbreak and it should work just fine. I hope this helps out some people that made the same mistake that I did. If you’ve upgraded already and need help going back down I’ve already done my trial and error with it so hit me up. . if you need the help just let me know. I think i’ve got it figured out.

I recently relocated to Sth- Korea and have a canadian telus ifone 3gs. I get the impression by your posting an individual can’t be on 5.1 for this process to work successfully, is that correct? Is there a way to downgrade back?
I only got into the jail breaking recently when it was suggested as a way to keep my existing phone and use it in Asia. Any direction would be awesome.

just back from holiday and disaster strikes… can’t lose all these photos, please help.

2 year old iphone 3gs 3.1.3 jailbroken (many moons ago). suddenly entered recovery mode – then dfu (apple logo). managed to exit back to recovery mode briefly before stupidly running pwned dfu with snowbreeze 2.9.3

is there any hope to get it back to recovery mode (or normal dfu) to try fix recovery/recboot/tinyumbrella? or upgrade without losing everything since last backup?

any suggestions greatly appreciated.
