The iPhone Dev Team released a new and major version of their popular tool, redsn0w. The tool has been updated to version 0.9.9b6 which brings Windows support for iOS 5 jailbreak. It also brings something that iPhone 3GS users have been waiting a a lot.
With redsn0w 0.9.9b6, you can technically fix aGPS location service issue on iPhone 3GS baseband 06.15. It doesn’t fully fix it but it brings a small solution for mean time until a downgrade for the baseband is released. This issue has been there since all iPhone 3GS users have upgraded to the iPad baseband to use Ultrasn0w unlock.
From the Dev Team:
We’ve released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers. For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.
It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).
Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 doesn’t bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 or iPad 2 / iPhone 4S jailbreak. Supported devices are still the same.
For those who’re asking about the aGPS location services fix on iPhone 3GS, with this redsn0w: As the 06.15.00 baseband has “assisted GPS” (aGPS), so it’ll use things like tower triangulation in apps like Google Maps. The full fix will be available after the baseband downgrade.
To be able to use the redsn0w 0.9.9b6, you’ll need to follow our full guide posted here to tethered jailbreak iOS 5. You’ll just need to download the new version from here then follow our previous instructions.
