Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 Download With Windows Support And Fixes Location Services Issue For iPhone 3GS 06.15 Baseband

by Ahmed Omar on October 18, 2011

The iPhone Dev Team released a new and major version of their popular tool, redsn0w. The tool has been updated to version 0.9.9b6 which brings Windows support for iOS 5 jailbreak. It also brings something that iPhone 3GS users have been waiting a a lot.

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6

With redsn0w 0.9.9b6, you can technically fix aGPS location service issue on iPhone 3GS baseband 06.15. It doesn’t fully fix it but it brings a small solution for mean time until a downgrade for the baseband is released. This issue has been there since all iPhone 3GS users have upgraded to the iPad baseband to use Ultrasn0w unlock.

From the Dev Team:

We’ve released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers. For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.

It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 doesn’t bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 or iPad 2 / iPhone 4S jailbreak. Supported devices are still the same.

For those who’re asking about the aGPS location services fix on iPhone 3GS, with this redsn0w: As the 06.15.00 baseband has “assisted GPS” (aGPS), so it’ll use things like tower triangulation in apps like Google Maps. The full fix will be available after the baseband downgrade.

To be able to use the redsn0w 0.9.9b6, you’ll need to follow our full guide posted here to tethered jailbreak iOS 5. You’ll just need to download the new version from here then follow our previous instructions.

If you found this post useful, hopefully hit the +1 (recommend) button ⇉

It does not worked for me.. may be it’s for new bootrom, but for my case there was no success.

  • Sukhish Puri

the network still keep crashing and obviously the GPS is not working and the worst part is no one is even bothered to reply even after asking twice…taking our hopes to sky high and crushing it back to hell…simply great!!! I respect the work done and i should not crying over it as i’ve not paid for it but still if you’ve started something, take the ownership to address it atleast?

Let’s face it. Our GPS is gone forever. We have the greatest smartphone ever, but it can get us nowhere. A 100Euros Chinese phone is doing that 1000 times better. Yes we can have great applications that no one uses for more than 5 times…

  • Golden-boy-86

    is this a joke?

  • Bojan Koltaj

    We want just baseband downgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jenicun

  • http://twitter.com/mirikitomo Steven Chaparro

I dont see the download link!!

  • Yo

where the motherfuck is the download link you fucking noobshits?

  • Middel

i ran this over my 3gs 6.15.00 with sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 custom ipsw on it. used redsn0w 0.9.9b6 and left all the options (cydia, ipad bb, etc) blank, as suggested. (pointed to stock ios 5 in redsn0w ofcourse) but every time i get: AppleBCMWLAN::handleIOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout(): Error, no successful firmware download after 60000 ms!

    anyone???

  • Elad Navon

Same here on a Mac using 0.9.9b5. I tried delete and re-install both from the store and installous, rebooted, respringed, nothing :(

  • http://twitter.com/jonaseeriksson Jonas Elias Eriksson

Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 Mac gives me “Unsupported IPSW” when I select the custom NO_BB_iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw.

Can anyone confirm that this will actually fix aGPS for old baseband 3GS? Seems as if there are still some problems, according to the comments below.

Can also report that iBooks does not work on current JB 0.9.9b5 with iOS 5 on 3GS.

  • Sukhish Puri

Epic fail, not even a single person got this to work and wasn’t that obvious??? guys…seriously, full marks for it…keep it up!!!

  • Plord74

What i did last night was to download original iOs5 3Gs firmware, then with snowbreze i made a custom firmware selecting preserve baseband option.

After that I put my 3gs in DFU mode, opened Itunes, the iphone was recognized as in Restore Mode, I pressed Shift on the Keyboard, and click on the button that says Restore, choose the custom firmware that snowbreeze saved on my desktop that does not update baseband, and let Itunes restore the Iphone.

Then I downloaded RedSnow, opened it as Administrator (windows) clicked on jailbreak, Look for the Original ios5 firmware on the desktop and let the 3gs be jailbreaked and activated by RedSnow.

When it was done, I disconnected my iphone, follow the setup and even thought it did not have signal, it was activated so I could reach home screen, there was Cydia, I opened it and look for Ultrasnow and installed it to unlock my phone and get Signal.

Gps is working while on Wifi or 3G Network, still no solution for real Gps.
